जिथं घटना तिथं बातमी आणि जिथं बातमी तिथं नाट्य…..!

From my college days, while writing poems and stories, I began writing plays as a hobby. Then, in the search for story ideas, I realized that if I wanted to pursue writing as a passion, I should choose a career that would provide opportunities for writing. This led me to a job in journalism. It was here that my writing truly blossomed. Initially, while preparing news stories, I used to think, ‘What’s so special about this? Anyone could do this.’ But gradually, I understood that to write a news story, one needs to study the subject, have a research-oriented mindset, courage, a passion for exploration, a keen eye for finding news, and the ability to blend imagination, logic, and facts. Only with these elements can one write a news story. This made the creative flights of fancy I used to take while writing plays seem trivial.

As I worked in journalism, new events came to me every day. With events comes hidden drama. I discovered this new principle: ‘Where there is an event, there is news, and where there is news, there is drama.’ This is why I continued writing plays while working as a journalist. Now, after 28 years of service, I am working as a freelance journalist. The writing continues. The journey will only end when my eyes, ears, hands, brain, and legs stop working, for that is the true retirement for a writer.”

महाविद्यालयीन जीवनापासून कविता,कथा लिहिता-लिहिता नाट्य लेखनाला आवड म्हणूनच सुरुवात झाली. मग कथाबीजाच्या शोधात एक लक्षात आले, लेखनकार्य ही आवड जोपासायची असेल तर नोकरी देखील लेखनाची संधी मिळेल अशाच क्षेत्रात करायला हवी. यातूनच पत्रकारितेच्या क्षेत्रात नोकरीला लागलो. इथेच माझे लेखन खऱ्या अर्थाने फुलले. बातमी तयार करताना सुरुवातीला वाटायचं “यात काय विशेष आहे ? हे काम तर कुणीही करेल”,पण मग हळूहळू त्यापाठीमागे विषयाचा अभ्यास, संशोधनाची वृत्ती, धाडस, भ्रमंतीची आवड, आणि बातमी शोधण्याची दृष्टी कल्पनाशक्तीचा वापर, तर्क आणि तथ्य यांची सांगड या सर्व घटकांचा अभ्यास असला तरच तुम्ही बातमी लिहू शकता याचे भान आले. मग नाट्यलेखन करतानाचा कल्पनाविलास हास्यास्पद वाटू लागला.
पत्रकारिता करताना रोज नव्या घटना मिळू लागल्या. घटना म्हंटलं की त्यामध्ये नाट्य लपलेलं असतं. “जिथं घटना तिथं बातमी आणि जिथं बातमी तिथं नाट्य” हे नवे सूत्र सापडले. त्यामुळेच पत्रकारिता करतानाच नाट्यलेखनही सुरू राहिले. आता २८ वर्षांच्या सेवेनंतर मुक्त पत्रकार म्हणून कार्यरत आहे. लेखनही सुरूच आहे. डोळे, कान, हाथ, मेंदू आणि पाय काम करेनासे होतील त्याचवेळी हा प्रवास थांबेल. कारण लेखनकार्य करणाऱ्यांची तीच निवृत्ती असते.
