“तुमच्या परिसराच्या इतिहासाचा मागोवा घेतला तरी तुमचा स्वाभिमान उंचावतो…!”

What is your favorite hobby or pastime?

We always try to do something different alongside our regular work. It is our desire that this distinctiveness becomes our identity. This is what we call pursuing a hobby. The more passionately you follow a hobby, the more your unique identity in society deepens. A person who doesn’t cultivate a hobby cannot establish a unique identity. That’s why many people take up extraordinary hobbies in their spare time.

Since childhood, I have been fascinated with history, which drives me to travel extensively. Even today, I wander through forests and barren lands on foot to uncover the historical identity of our city and surroundings. I am constantly striving to explore whether a new study can be conducted based on legends, myths, or unclear historical information. Being in the field of journalism provides me with an environment that supports this passion.

• Many people are unaware of the history of their own city or surroundings. In fact, many don’t even know the history of their own family. Who was the head of the family three generations ago? What contribution did they make to the family? These details are often unknown. In today’s fast-paced world, one might wonder, “What’s the use of this information?” But the history of your city, surroundings, or family is your pride. When your pride is elevated, your accomplishments shine with a unique brilliance.
• My city, Solapur (Maharashtra, India), is known for its spiritual, cultural, and historical significance, and even its industrial identity from a century ago. Over time, due to neglect, many of the city’s landmarks and places have faded into oblivion. The concept behind nurturing this hobby is to pass on this heritage to the new generation.
• Our spiritual heritage includes pilgrimage sites like Pandharpur, known as Bhūvaikuṇṭha, the abode of Lord Vitthal; Akkalkot, the site of Swami Samarth; and Mangalwedha, the place of Saint Damajipant. Thirty-five kilometers from the city lies Hattarkudal Sangam, where a thousand-year-old Marathi inscription can be found. Around 350 years ago, Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb left Delhi, his capital, and spent six and a half years in Brahmapuri village in the district, strategizing to subdue Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. From here, he managed his empire as far as Kabul (Afghanistan).
• Aurangzeb would come to the city’s Jama Masjid to offer Friday prayers, and his queen resided in the Bhuikot Fort. Furthermore, 200 years ago, in 1818, the last battle between the Marathas and the British took place near Ashti village, marking the fall of the Maratha Empire and the complete subjugation of the country to British rule. Along with Bhuikot Fort, there are other historical landmarks, like a lake formed by a meteorite impact 3,500 years ago and an ancient trade route from around 1,500 years ago, all connected to my city. This is our pride.

आपण आपल्या नियमित कामांच्या सोबतही आणखी वेगळं काहीतरी करण्याचा नेहमीच प्रयत्न करत असतो. हा वेगळेपणाच आपली ओळख बनावा हीच आपली इच्छा असते. यालाच आपण छंद जोपासणे म्हणतो. या छंदासाठी जितके तुम्ही झपाटले जाल तेव्हढी समाजात तुमच्या वेगळेपणाची ओळख गडद होत जाते. छंद न जोपासणारा माणूस आपली वेगळी ओळख निर्माण करू शकत नाही. त्यामुळेच फावल्या वेळात अनेकजण अनेक प्रकारचे अफलातून असे छंद जोपासतात. मला लहानपणापासून इतिहासाचे वेड असल्याने मी खूप भटकंती करत असतो. आपल्या शहराची-परिसराची ऐतिहासिक ओळख व्हावी यासाठी आजदेखील पायी चालत रानवाटा आणि माळरान फिरत असतो. दंतकथा, पुराणकथा किंवा अस्पष्ट असलेल्या ऐतिहासिक माहितीच्या आधारे नवा अभ्यास करता येवू शकतो का ? हे शोधण्याची माझी धडपड सुरू असते. पत्रकारितेच्या क्षेत्रात असल्याने मला हा छंद जोपासायला पूरक असे वातावरण देखील मिळते.

• बऱ्याच जणांना आपल्याच शहराचा-परिसराचा इतिहास माहीत नसतो. इतकंच काय, त्यांना आपल्या घराण्याचा देखील इतिहास माहीत नसतो. तीन पिढ्यांच्या आधीचे कुटुंबप्रमुख कोण होते ? त्यांनी आपल्या घराण्यासाठी काय योगदान दिले हे देखील माहीत नसते. आत्ताच्या धावत्या जगात या माहितीचा काय उपयोग ? असा साधा प्रश्न सगळ्यांनाच पडू शकतो. पण आपल्या शहराचा-परिसराचा किंवा कुटुंबाचा इतिहास हाच आपला स्वाभिमान असतो. आणि तुमचा स्वाभिमान उंचावलेला असेल तरच तुमच्या कर्तृत्वाला एक वेगळी झळाळी प्राप्त होत असते.
• माझं सोलापूर शहर (महाराष्ट्र, भारत) हे अध्यात्मिक, सांस्कृतिक, ऐतिहासिक इतकंच काय तर शतकापूर्वीची औद्योगिक ओळख सांगणारे शहर आहे. काळाच्या ओघात आणि उदासीनतेमुळे शहरातील अनेक वास्तू, ठिकाणे विस्मृतीत गेली आहेत. आपला हा वारसा नव्या पिढीला कळावा हीच हा छंद जोपासण्यामागची संकल्पना आहे.
• भूवैकुंठ म्हणून ओळखले जाणारे श्री विठ्ठलाचे पंढरपूर, स्वामी समर्थांचे अक्कलकोट, संत दमाजीपंतांचे मंगळवेढा ही तीर्थक्षेत्रे आमचा अध्यात्मिक वारसा आहेत. शहरापासून ३५ कि. मी. अंतरावर असलेले हत्तरकुडलसंगम या ठिकाणी एक हजार वर्षांपूर्वीचा मराठीमधील शिलालेख, साडेतीनशे वर्षांपूर्वी छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांचा बिमोड करण्यासाठी दिल्ली हे राजधानीचे ठिकाण सोडून महाराष्ट्रात आलेल्या मुघल बादशाह औरंगजेब याचा तब्बल साडेसहा वर्षे जिल्ह्यातील ब्रह्मपुरी या गावी मुक्काम होता. इथूनच तो काबूल पर्यंतचा (अफगाणिस्तान) कारभार पहात होता.
• शुक्रवारची नमाज अदा करायला औरंगजेब शहरातील जामा मशिदीत यायचा. इथल्या भुईकोट किल्ल्यात त्याची राणी रहात होती. या बरोबरच दोनशे वर्षांपूर्वी म्हणजेच १८१८ मध्ये इंग्रजांबरोबर झालेल्या शेवटच्या लढाईत मराठेशाहीची वाताहत झाली आणि संपूर्ण देश ब्रिटिशांचा गुलाम झाला ती युद्धभूमी जिल्ह्यातील आष्टी या गावालगत आहे. यासह भुईकोट किल्ला, साडेतीन हजार वर्षांपूर्वी उल्कापातामधून तयार झालेला तलाव, सुमारे दीड हजार वर्षांपूर्वीचा व्यापारी मार्ग असे अनेक ऐतिहासिक ठिकाणे माझ्या शहराशी जोडलेले आहेत. हाच आमचा स्वाभिमान आहे.
