“हलाखीच्या परिस्थितीतही “कला” जोपासणारे “कलाकार” श्रेष्ठ असतात…!”

Who are your favorite artists?

Even though successful artists gain immense fame and wealth through their art, providing stability in their lives, they often transform their art into a commercial endeavor. On the other hand, there are many artists who dedicate their entire lives to their craft, enduring hardship throughout, but their faith in their art remains unwavering. When faced with the question of whether one should live for art or use art to live, it becomes evident that artists who nurture their art even in difficult circumstances are truly exceptional.

• I myself am a part of the world of art. I have been a director and playwright on the Marathi amateur theater scene for nearly three decades. Though I represent a generation where the “trend” is to consider an artist successful only if they gain fame and money, I would merely recognize such people as commercial artists. There are artists who struggle to live based solely on their art. For them, art is more important than their own life. But for those who use art to gain fame and wealth, art is merely a tool. That is why I deeply detest such artists. Whether or not you agree with my opinion, I have no idea.

• Art that is presented with the pomp of wealth entertains a specific class of people. But I believe art is not just a means of entertainment; it is a significant movement for public awareness. That is why I have immense admiration for folk artists who, while entertaining people, also enlighten them. The artists who present art on topics close to people’s hearts, in a language they understand, and in a way that connects with them are the truly exceptional ones. While those who receive awards, fame, and money may have a fan following, they can never truly embrace art.
• This is why artists who live for their art feel relatable. No matter the language or the form of art, an artist who lives for art presents it with sincerity, without wearing any masks. Because they are the true hero hidden within themselves.

आपल्या कलेद्वारे अमाप प्रसिद्धी आणि पैसा कमवत आयुष्याला स्थिरता मिळवून देणारे हे यशस्वी कलाकार असले तरी देखील स्वतःजवळ असलेल्या कलेला त्यांनी व्यावसायिक स्वरूप दिलेले असते. याउलट कलासाधनेसाठी आपले आयुष्य वेचणारे अनेक कलाकार असे आहेत की त्यांची आयुष्यभर परवड होत असते, पण त्यांची कलेवरची श्रद्धा निस्सीम असते. जगण्यासाठी “कला” की कलेसाठी “जगणे” असावे हा विषय समोर आला तर नक्कीच हलाखीच्या परिस्थितीतही “कला” जोपासणारे “कलाकार” श्रेष्ठ आहेत हेच दिसून येईल.

• मी स्वतः कलाक्षेत्राचा एक घटक आहे. मराठी हौशी रंगभूमीवर दिग्दर्शक आणि नाट्यलेखक म्हणून माझा जवळपास तीन दशकांचा प्रवास आहे. प्रसिद्धी आणि पैसा मिळाला म्हणजेच तो यशस्वी कलावंत समजण्याचा “ट्रेण्ड” प्रचलित झालेल्या पिढीचा मी प्रतिनिधी असलो तरी मी फार तर अशा लोकांना कला व्यावसायिक म्हणून ओळख दाखवेन. जे कलावंत कलेच्या आधारावर जगण्याची धडपड करतात. त्यांच्यादृष्टीने त्यांच्या जगण्यापेक्षा “कला” सर्वश्रेष्ठ असते. पण जे लोक कलेचा वापर करून प्रसिद्धी आणि पैसा मिळवतात, त्यांच्यादृष्टीने कला हे केवळ साधन असते. म्हणूनच अशा कलावंतांचा मला मनस्वी तिटकारा आहे. माझ्या या मताशी तुम्ही सहमत असाल की नाही ? याबद्दल मला काहीच माहिती नाही.
• श्रीमंतीचा थाट दाखवत सादर होणारी कला ही एका विशिष्ट वर्गाचे मनोरंजन करते. पण कला ही फक्त मनोरंजनाचे साधन नाही. तर लोकप्रबोधनाची ती एक मोठी चळवळ आहे, असं मी मानतो. त्यामुळेच लोककलेतून लोकांचे मनोरंजन करतानाच त्यांचे प्रबोधन करणारे लोक कलाकार मला अतिशय प्रिय आहेत. लोकांना समजेल अशा त्यांच्याच भाषेत, त्यांच्याशी जवळीकता साधणाऱ्या विषयावर कला सादर करणारे लोककलावंत हेच सर्वश्रेष्ठ असतात.
• केवळ पुरस्कार, प्रसिद्धी आणि पैसा मिळवणाऱ्या कलावंतांच्या भोवती त्यांच्या चाहत्यांचा गराडा असतो पण कला त्यांना कधीच जवळ करता येत नाही. म्हणूनच कलेसाठी जगणारे कलावंत आपलेसे वाटतात. भाषा कोणतीही असो, कलाप्रकार कोणताही असो, कलेसाठी जगणारा कलावंत कोणताही मुखवटा न धारण करता ती कला सच्चेपणाने सादर करत असतो. कारण तो आपल्या आतला दडलेला नायक असतो.
