“तिखट आणि मसाल्याचा यशस्वी व्यवसाय करायची इच्छा….!”

What’s something you would attempt if you were guaranteed not to fail.

While working a job and seeking stability and comfort from the fixed monthly salary for ten or twenty years, the thought of “having my own small business, no matter how modest” starts to arise. Many people, tired of the increasing stress at work and the boss’s authoritarianism, begin a small home-based business as an alternative to their job. Once they start finding some success, they suddenly resign one day and become a “hero” among their colleagues. This very example inspires others to quit their jobs and start businesses. Some succeed, while others face significant financial struggles due to failure. Yet, the passion for building a successful business persists. This is a very common story. Almost everyone, at some point in life, tries to start their own business. I am one of them too. I have experienced failure in business once, but now that I am confident of success, I am eager to restart the same business.

• I originally chose to work in the uncertain field of journalism to nurture my passion for writing. Before marriage, with little responsibility, life revolves around oneself, and financial calculations are straightforward. At that time, a job in journalism seems glamorous. But once you are married and the weight of responsibility falls on your shoulders, that same glamorous journalism job becomes the main source of financial strain and household stress.
• The meager salary received after working for a month, coupled with the unpaid respect and recognition you get as a journalist, creates a dilemma—neither can you quit the job, nor can you afford to start a business. This is how several years of my life passed by.
• There comes a moment in everyone’s life when they feel that if not now, it’s never. At that time, people make the firm decision to leave their original profession and dive into a new business. Similarly, around 2012-13, I decided to quit my job in electronic media and started trading in spices and masalas.
• Initially, I began earning more from trading than I did from my job, and I started dreaming of stability. My only son had just started his college education. Seeing that the money needed to run the household was coming from trading, even my wife, who was initially worried about my decision, had calmed down. But alas! Fate had decided that I should face failure here as well.
• I had no proper storage arrangement for the masala I bought from the company. As a result, I stored the packets of spices at home and on the terrace. One day, a severe storm hit, and the packets got soaked in the rain. The company refused to take the damaged goods back. This caused me such a massive financial loss that I fell into debt. It took me two years to recover from this, and eventually, I returned to journalism.
• Even though I faced such a significant failure and financial loss, the experience taught me valuable lessons on how to run a business, secure financial backing, and take precautions to avoid losses. Now, I have a strong desire to re-enter the spice and masala business and achieve success if given the opportunity. If fate supports me, I will definitely give it another try.

नोकरी करताना महिन्याला मिळणाऱ्या ठराविक रकमेच्या पगारावर स्थिरता आणि सुख शोधण्यामध्ये दहा-वीस वर्षे गेली की मग “स्वतःचा एक छोटासा का होईना पण व्यवसाय असावा” असं सारखं वाटायला सुरुवात होते. नोकरीच्या ठिकाणी वाढलेला ताण आणि बॉसची हुकूमशाही याला कंटाळलेले अनेकजण नोकरीला पर्याय म्हणून स्वतःचा घरगुती व्यवसाय सुरु करतात. त्यात बऱ्यापैकी यश मिळायला लागले की मग अचानक एकेदिवशी नोकरीचा राजीनामा देत सगळ्या सहकाऱ्यांमध्ये “हिरो” बनतात. हाच आदर्श पुढे अनेकजण अंगिकारत नोकरीचा राजीनामा देत व्यवसाय उभारतात. काहींना यश मिळते तर काहींची अपयश आल्याने चांगलीच आर्थिक ओढाताण होते. पण यशस्वी व्यवसाय करण्याची मस्ती मात्र कायम राहते. ही अतिशय कॉमन स्टोरी आहे. पण प्रत्येकजण आयुष्यात एकदा का होईना स्वतःचा व्यवसाय सुरू करण्याचा प्रयत्न करून पहातच असतो. मी देखील त्यामधील एक आहे. एकदा व्यवसायातील अपयश सहन केले आहे. पण आता यशाची खात्री झाली की पुन्हा तोच व्यवसाय सुरु करण्याची जबरदस्त इच्छा मी बाळगून आहे.

• मी मुळातच पत्रकारितेसारख्या कायम अनिश्चीततेच्या वातावरणातील व्यवसायात नोकरी करण्याचा निर्णय घेतला तो स्वतःला लेखनकार्याची आवड जोपासता यावी म्हणून. लग्न होण्यापूर्वी फारशी जबाबदारी येत नसल्याने एकट्यापुरतेच जगण्याचा विचार आणि डोक्यात हिशोब असतो. त्यावेळी पत्रकारितेची नोकरी ग्लॅमरस वाटत असते. पुढे लग्न झाल्यावर सगळी जबाबदारी अंगावर पडली की हीच ग्लॅमरस वाटणारी पत्रकारितेची नोकरी आर्थिक ओढाताणीचे आणि घरातील तणावाचे प्रमुख कारण बनत असते.
• काम केल्यानंतर महिन्याला मिळणारा तुटपुंजा पगार आणि बाहेर पत्रकार म्हणून मिळणारा फुकटचा मान-सन्मान या दोन्हीच्या कचाट्यात नोकरीही सोडू वाटत नाही आणि व्यवसाय उभारण्याची देखील ऐपत नसते. अशा परिस्थितीतच नोकरीची काही वर्षे निघून जातात.
• आता नाही तर पुढे कधीच नाही, ही मस्ती दाखविणारा एक क्षण प्रत्येकाच्याच आयुष्यात येतो. त्यावेळी तो स्वतःचा मूळ व्यवसाय सोडून नव्या व्यवसायात शिरण्याचा ठाम निर्णय घेतो. मी देखील २०१२-१३ च्या दरम्यान निर्णय घेत इलेक्ट्रॉनिक मीडियातील नोकरी सोडत तिखट आणि मसाल्याचे ट्रेडिंग सुरू केले होते.
• सुरुवातीच्या काळात नोकरीतील पगारापेक्षाही अधिक रक्कम ट्रेडिंगमधून मिळू लागल्याने मी स्थिरतेची स्वप्ने पाहू लागलो होतो. एकुलत्या एक असलेल्या माझ्या मुलाचे महाविद्यालयीन शिक्षण सुरू झालेले होते. प्रपंचासाठी लागणारा पैसा ट्रेडिंगमधून मिळतोय म्हंटल्यावर माझ्या व्यवसाय करण्याच्या निर्णयाने धास्तावलेली पत्नी देखील शांत झाली होती. पण हाय रे देवा ! नशिबाने मला यात देखील अपयशी करायचेच नक्की केले होते.
• कंपनीतून खरेदी केलेला मसाला ठेवण्यासाठी माझ्याकडे स्टोअरेजची कोणतीच व्यवस्था नव्हती. त्यामुळे मी खरेदी केलेले तिखट आणि मसाल्याचे पॅकेट्स घरात आणि गच्चीवर ठेवत होतो. त्यातच एक दिवशी मोठा वादळी पाऊस झाला, त्यात मसाल्याचे पॅकेट्स भिजले. कंपनीने माल परत घ्यायला नकार दिला. त्यात मला कर्जबाजारी होईल इतका मोठा आर्थिक फटका बसला होता. त्यातून सावरायला पुढे माझी दोन वर्षे वाया गेली. पुन्हा मी पत्रकारितेत परतलो.
• एव्हढे अपयश येवून आर्थिक नुकसान सोसावे लागले असले तरी त्यामध्ये मला व्यवसाय कसा करायचा ? आर्थिक पाठबळ कसे उभे करायचे ? याबरोबरच कोणत्याही प्रकारचे नुकसान टाळण्यासाठी घ्यावयाची काळजी याचा चांगलाच अनुभव मिळालेला असल्याने आता संधी मिळाली तर पुन्हा एकदा तिखट आणि मसाला विक्रीच्या व्यवसायात यश मिळविण्यासाठी उतरायची तीव्र इच्छा आहे. नशिबाने साथ दिली तर नक्कीच हा प्रयत्न करणार आहे.
