What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Everyone insists on understanding the truth, and rightfully so, as it is a natural right. Each person should have complete knowledge about matters that concern them. If they don’t, it is the responsibility of others to inform them, thereby protecting their natural rights. However, when fighting for the rights of the weak against systems that suppress their natural rights and make them more vulnerable, you must pay a heavy price for bringing the “truth” to light. I have experienced this firsthand, being in journalism. While working in the media, though there is a halo of fame surrounding us, most people are unaware that it comes with a tinge of pain.

• Journalism is not just about delivering information and entertainment to the people. Along with this, journalists have to undertake risky work to safeguard the fundamental rights of ordinary people and address issues like exploitation, corruption, and social crimes, ensuring that society stays united. At times, journalists even face the threat of losing their own lives. What’s more, no one takes responsibility for this. The responsibility of protecting one’s own life falls solely on the journalist themselves.
• When awakening the general public against the corruption and hooliganism of political leaders in power, journalists often receive death threats from unknown individuals. Many times, there are even secret attacks.
• Although others may find the lifestyle of a journalist fascinating or intriguing, as if it were like living a movie script, in reality, being a journalist means constantly enduring this mental pressure while always striving to present positive thoughts.
• During religious riots or election periods, the risk of attacks from unknown destructive forces is much higher. We fend off these attacks by using our own strategies. Governments, regardless of their type, are rarely concerned about this because, at some point, they too have been offended by our writings.
• People who only know about journalists through hearsay don’t understand the struggles involved in living as one. They see our fame but fail to recognize the dangers behind it. Even today, every time I step out of the house, I do so while keeping these risks in mind. My wife and child are aware of this too.

आपल्याला सत्य समजावे हा प्रत्येकाचा अट्टाहास असतो. अर्थात हा प्रत्येकाचा नैसर्गिक अधिकार आहे. प्रत्येकाला त्याच्या संबंधित गोष्टीबद्दल पूर्ण माहिती ही असलीच पाहिजे. नसेल तर त्याला ती माहिती इतरांनी सांगितली पाहिजे ज्यामुळे त्याच्या नैसर्गिक अधिकारांचे संरक्षण केले जावू शकते. पण दुबळ्या व्यक्तींचे नैसर्गिक अधिकार दडपून त्यांना अधिक दुर्बल करणाऱ्या यंत्रणेविरुद्ध दुर्बलाच्या अधिकारासाठी लढताना तुम्ही “सत्य” उजेडात आणल्याची तुम्हाला जबर किंमत मोजावी लागते. हे मी पत्रकारितेत असल्याने अनुभवले आहे. माध्यमामध्ये काम करत असल्याने जरी प्रसिद्धीचे वलय आमच्या भोवती असले तरी त्याला देखील वेदनेची एक किनार असते, हे बहुतेक लोकांना माहीत नाही.

• लोकांपर्यंत केवळ माहिती आणि मनोरंजन पोहचविणे एव्हढेच पत्रकारितेचे काम नसते. याबरोबरच सर्वसामान्यांचे मूलभूत अधिकार, शोषण, भ्रष्टाचार, सामाजिक गुन्हे यासह समाज एकसंघ रहावा यासाठी पत्रकारितेच्या माध्यमातून जोखमीचे काम करावे लागते. वेळप्रसंगी स्वतःचा जीव देखील गमावण्याची पाळी पत्रकारांवर येत असते. विशेष म्हणजे याची जबाबदारी कुणीच स्वीकारत नसते. स्वतःचा जीव सुरक्षित ठेवण्याची जबाबदारी त्याची स्वतःचीच असते.
• सत्तेत असलेल्या राजकीय नेत्यांच्या भ्रष्टाचार, गुंडागर्दी विरुद्ध सर्वसामान्यांना जागृत करताना अनेक वेळा अज्ञात लोकांकडून जीवे मारण्याच्या धमक्या मिळत असतात. अनेकदा छुपे हल्ले देखील केले जातात.
• चित्रपटाच्या कथेसारखे जगण्याचे इतरांना आकर्षण आणि अप्रूप वाटत असले तरी प्रत्यक्ष पत्रकार म्हणून जगताना हे सर्व मानसिक दडपण सहन करत नेहमीच सकारात्मक विचार मांडण्याचा प्रयत्न सुरूच ठेवावा लागतो.
• धार्मिक दंगली किंवा निवडणुकांच्या काळात दुखावलेल्या अज्ञात समाज विघातक शक्तींकडून होणाऱ्या हल्ल्यांचा धोका अधिक प्रमाणात असतो. हे हल्ले देखील आम्ही आमच्या क्लुप्त्या वापरून परतवून लावतो. कोणत्याही सरकारला याबाबत फार काळजी नसते. कारण कधीतरी ते देखील आमच्या लिखाणामुळे दुखावलेले असते.
• आमच्याबद्दल ऐकीव माहिती असणाऱ्या लोकांना पत्रकार म्हणून जगणे किती संघर्षाचे असते हेच माहीत नसते. त्यांना आमची प्रसिद्धी दिसते त्यामागील धोके दिसत नाहीत. आजदेखील मी घराबाहेर पडताना हा धोका लक्षात घेवूनच बाहेर पडतो. माझ्या पत्नीला आणि मुलाला देखील हे माहीत असते.
