Japan, when compared to India, is a much more advanced country. It is a self-reliant nation in science and technology. Although India has now become the fourth country to join the ranks, there is still a lot we can learn from the Japanese. The Japanese are known to be “workaholics.” However, they are just as hospitable and devout as Indians. Most importantly, they hold Indians in high regard, viewing them as people from the land of Buddha. My son Soham resides in the city of Hamamatsu, Japan, for his job. Yesterday, on November 14, his friends there celebrated his birthday, which brought us a unique joy.

My son Soham moved to the city of Hamamatsu, Japan, for his job in January. The company had already arranged a rented block for his accommodation, so he didn’t face much trouble upon arriving in Japan. Since he knows the Japanese language, he adapted quickly. He formed a good friendship with the family running the Soba restaurant there. Yesterday, on November 14, they celebrated his birthday in a family-style manner, which deeply touched us, his parents, living in India.

• Wherever you go in the world, the people who join you in your personal celebrations are considered your close friends. This is an inherent part of Indian culture. My son is a young man in his mid-twenties who, after completing his engineering studies, went to Japan for work. In a foreign country, in an unfamiliar city, meeting family-oriented people is not only a good thing for a young man like him but also a great comfort for his concerned parents. As parents, we feel especially grateful to the  Soba family. Our worries about how our son is living in Japan have now eased.
  Though Soham is independent-minded, he is a very loving and kind-hearted boy. He deeply cares for those who befriend him. This caring nature is what the  Soba family appreciated so much. They celebrated his birthday in a family-like manner at their restaurant, which has certainly strengthened our sense of respect and admiration for their friendship. As Soham’s parents, this incident has brought us immense joy.

“भारतीय मित्राचा वाढदिवस साजरा करणारे जपानी कुटुंब…!”

जपान हा तसं बघायला गेलं तर भारतापेक्षा खूप पुढारलेला देश आहे. विज्ञान आणि तंत्रज्ञानात आत्मनिर्भर असणारा देश आहे. भारत देखील आता त्याच रांगेत जावून बसणारा चौथ्या क्रमांकाचा देश असला तरी जपानी लोकांकडून आपण अजून खुपकाही शिकण्यासारखे आहे. जपानी लोक हे “वर्कोहोलीक” समजले जातात. तसे ते भारतीय लोका इतकेच आदरातिथ्य करणारे आणि श्रद्धाळू आहेत. मुख्य म्हणजे ते भारतीयांना बुद्धाच्या देशातील लोक म्हणून खूप आदराने पाहतात. माझा मुलगा सोहम हा जॉबच्या निमित्ताने जपानमधील हमामात्सू शहरात वास्तव्यास आहे. काल १४ नोव्हेंबर रोजी त्याचा वाढदिवस तिथल्या स्नेहीजनांनी साजरा करीत आम्हाला एक वेगळाच आनंद दिला.

माझा मुलगा सोहम हा जॉबच्या निमित्ताने जानेवारी महिन्यात जपानमधील हमामात्सू शहरात दाखल झाला. कंपनीने त्याच्या राहण्यासाठी आधीच भाडेतत्वावर ब्लॉक घेतला असल्याने त्याला जपानमध्ये गेल्यावर अगदीच त्रास वगैरे झाला नाही. त्याला जपानी भाषा अवगत असल्याने तिथे तो लगेच  रुळला. तेथील सोबा या रेस्टॉरंट चालक कुटुंबियांची त्याची चांगलीच मैत्री झाली. त्यांनीच काल १४ नोव्हेंबर रोजी त्याचा कौटुंबिक पद्धतीने वाढदिवस साजरा करत भारतात रहात असलेल्या आम्हा आई-वडिलांना अगदीच भारावून टाकले.

• जगात तुम्ही कुठेही गेलात तरी तुमच्या व्यक्तिगत आनंदोत्सवात सहभागी होणारे लोक हे तुम्ही तुमचे स्नेही मानता. हाच भारतीय संस्कार आहे. माझा मुलगा हा अभियांत्रिकीचे शिक्षण घेवून जॉबसाठी जपान मध्ये गेलेला ऐन पंचविशीतील तरुण मुलगा आहे. परक्या देशात, अनोळखी शहरात तुम्हाला कुटुंबवत्सल माणसे भेटणे हे त्याच्या सारख्या तरुण मुलाच्या बाबतीत जेव्हढी चांगली गोष्ट असते तेव्हढीच त्याची काळजी करणाऱ्या आई-वडिलांसाठी देखील चांगली गोष्ट आहे. पालक या नात्याने आम्हा उभयतांना सोबा कुटुंबियांचे विशेष आभार मानावेसे वाटतात. आमचा मुलगा जपानमध्ये कसा रहात असेल याची आमची काळजीच मिटली आहे. मुळात सोहम हा स्वतंत्र विचारांचा असला तरी खूप प्रेमळ आणि सहृदयी संस्कारी मुलगा आहे. तो त्याच्यासोबत मैत्री करणाऱ्यांची खूप काळजी घेतो. त्याचा हा स्वभावच सोबा आणि कुटुंबियांना खूप आवडला. त्यांनी त्याचा रेस्टॉरंट मध्ये कौटुंबिक पद्धतीने वाढदिवस साजरा करून मैत्रीचा आदरभाव आमच्या मनात देखील नक्कीच वाढवला आहे. सोहमचे आई-वडील म्हणून या घटनेने आम्हाला खूप आनंदित केले आहे.
