What’s the first impression you want to give people?

“Elders have always told us that ‘Your first impression should also be your last impression.’ They share this as words of wisdom from their experience, and though we may not fully grasp its depth, we constantly strive to follow it. We often interpret the word ‘impression’ to mean appearing charismatic or impressive, and so, we go out of our way to look confident and appealing when meeting someone for the first time.

However, creating an impression isn’t just about appearances. It’s more about demonstrating genuine interest and seriousness in a subject or area. How you look matters to a limited extent to someone meeting you for the first time, but what truly defines you is your work. When your work becomes your identity, the world begins to recognize you.

• My journey as a writer began during my school days, solely because of my mother’s encouragement. Her simple words, “You write well,” served as a pat on the back and inspired me to explore writing. Initially, I started with essay writing, short stories, and poetry. Naturally, due to inexperience, limited knowledge, and a novice perspective, my early works were quite elementary. However, the desire to express myself on various topics came from within, which kept me writing consistently.
• It was only later that I realized my determination to maintain consistency in writing was what people call “passion.” Gradually, with consistent efforts, my writing began to show refinement and structure. Encouragement from friends and acquaintances further motivated me. During my college years, I was drawn to theatre, which led me to write one-act plays.
• When I realized that writing alone wouldn’t suffice to sustain a livelihood, I decided to choose a profession where my writing skills could be utilized. This brought me to the field of journalism. Witnessing the struggles of people for basic necessities gave me a purpose, and I started writing through newspapers. My reports resonated with readers, and alongside, I continued writing one-act plays and theatrical scripts.
• Over time, I began to gain recognition as both a playwright and a journalist. This period brought me several awards for my plays and journalism, which further inspired me to write more. Unknowingly, the writer within me continued to evolve.
• Today, I earnestly wish that this identity remains intact until my last breath. My only humble request to the Almighty is that people remember me as a sensitive soul who dedicated his life to writing.

“लेखनकार्यासाठी आयुष्य समर्पित केलेला संवेदनशील माणूस…!”

“तुमचं पहिलं इम्प्रेशन हेच तुमचं शेवटचं इम्प्रेशन असलं पाहिजे” असं आपल्याला नेहमीच वडीलधारी मंडळी सांगत आले आहेत. त्यांच्या अनुभवाचे बोल म्हणून ते आपल्याला सांगतात आणि आपल्याला ते समजत नसलं तरी आपण नेहमीच हा प्रयत्न करत असतो. “इम्प्रेशन” हा शब्द रुबाबदार या अर्थाने अभिप्रेत असावा एव्हढाच निष्कर्ष आपण काढत असतो. त्यामुळे पहिल्यांदाच भेटणाऱ्या व्यक्तीसमोर आपण रुबाबदार दिसावे म्हणून खटाटोप करत असतो. पण फक्त दिसणं एव्हढंच अभिप्रेत नसून तुम्ही कोणत्या विषयात गांभीर्याने आपली रुची दाखवताय, हे देखील जास्त अभिप्रेत असते. तुम्ही दिसता कसे ? याला पहिल्यांदाच भेटणारा व्यक्ती एका मर्यादेपुरतेच महत्व देत असतो. तुमचं काम हीच तुमची ओळख बनली की मग जगाला तुम्ही परिचित होत असतात. माझ्या लेखनकार्यालाच मी माझे आयुष्य समर्पित केलेले असल्याने हाच माझा पहिला आणि शेवटचा ठसा असावा, हीच परमेश्वराकडे माझी नेहमी मागणी असते.

• केवळ आईने “तू चांगलं लिहितोस” ही शाबासकी देत प्रोत्साहन दिल्याने शाळकरी वयापासूनच माझा लेखनप्रवास सुरू झाला. सुरुवातीला निबंधलेखन, लघुकथा लेखन, काव्यलेखन सुरू होते. अर्थात अनुभव, अभ्यास आणि दृष्टीतल्या नवखेपणामुळे त्याकाळातले लिखाण हे बाळबोधपणाचे होते. पण मला वेगवेगळ्या विषयांवर व्यक्त व्हावंसं वाटणं ही क्रिया आतून घडत असावी. म्हणून मी लिहीत रहायचो.
• लिखाणात सातत्य असावे या माझ्या जिद्दीलाच “पॅशन” म्हणतात हे मला खूप नंतर कळाले. पुढे हळूहळू सातत्याने लिखाणात सुसूत्रता यायला लागली. मग मित्रमंडळी, परिचित लोकांकडून प्रोत्साहन मिळत गेले. मग महाविद्यालयीन काळात नाट्यकलेकडे आकर्षित झाल्यावर एकांकिका लिहायला सुरुवात केली.
• नुसते लेखनकार्य करून भागणार नाही, उपजीविकेसाठी काम करावेच लागणार आहे याची जाणीव झाल्यावर आपल्या लेखनकलेला वाव मिळेल असे क्षेत्र निवडायचे म्हणून पत्रकारितेच्या क्षेत्रात आलो. मूलभूत सुविधांसाठी लोकांचा संघर्ष पाहिला आणि वृत्तपत्राच्या माध्यमातून लिहिता झालो. लोकांना माझे रिपोर्ट आवडू लागले. याबरोबरच एकांकिका आणि नाट्यलेखन सुरूच होते.
• हळूहळू नाट्यलेखक आणि पत्रकार ही माझी ओळख आकार घेवू लागली. याकाळात नाट्यलेखनाचे पुरस्कार आणि पत्रकारितेचे पुरस्कार मिळत गेले. त्यातून अधिक लेखनकार्य करण्याची प्रेरणा मिळत गेली. अगदी कळत नकळत माझ्यातील लेखक घडत गेला. आता शेवटच्या श्वासापर्यंत हीच ओळख कायम रहावी अशी मनोमन इच्छा आहे. लोकांनी मला लेखनकार्यासाठी आयुष्य समर्पित केलेला संवेदनशील माणूस म्हणून कायम स्मरणात ठेवावे एव्हढीच परमेश्वराकडे माफक मागणी आहे.
