Some people love the monsoon, while others prefer winter, but for me, the summer—especially the month of April—holds a special place in my heart. After all, it’s the month I was born. Globally, April 1 is celebrated as April Fools’ Day, a day of fun and harmless pranks. My mother used to jokingly say, “God planned your birth in April just to play a little trick on us!” She had hoped for a daughter at the time. Whatever the case, April remains my favorite month because it marks my birthday.

Unless you live in a mountainous or snowy region, you’re usually mentally prepared to endure the summer heat. Coming from a region with low rainfall and a consistently dry and scorching climate, I’ve never had any complaints about the heat. In fact, I often joke, “We have only two seasons where I come from—summer and extreme summer!”

During my school days, exams used to be held in the first week of April, followed by vacations. This allowed me to celebrate my birthday on April 11 with great joy. To keep that happiness alive, I eagerly look forward to it all year long.

“मी एप्रिलचा….एप्रिल माझा…!”

कुणाला पावसाळा आवडतो तर कुणाला हिवाळा आवडतो, मला मात्र उन्हाळ्यातील खास करून एप्रिल महिना प्रचंड आवडतो. कारण याच महिन्यात माझा जन्म झाला आहे. एकमेकांना मूर्खांत काढणारा गमतीचा दिवस म्हणून १ एप्रिल जगभर एप्रिल फूल(फनी डे) साजरा केला जातो. आई मला नेहमी सांगायची,”तुझ्या जन्माचे एप्रिल महिन्यात नियोजन करून परमेश्वरानेच आमची गंमत केली. माझ्या आईला माझ्यावेळेस मुलगी हवी होती. काही का असेना ! माझ्या वाढदिवसाचा महिना म्हणून मला एप्रिल महिना प्रचंड आवडतो. तुम्ही डोंगराळ प्रदेशात किंवा बर्फाळ प्रदेशात रहात नसाल तर उन्हाळा बऱ्यापैकी सहन करण्याची तुमची नक्कीच मानसिकता असते. मी तर कमी पर्जन्यमान आणि कायमचा हवेतील रखरखीतपणा आणि उष्मा असणाऱ्या भागातील असल्याने उन्हाबाबत माझी कधीच, कोणतीच तक्रार नसते. मी नेहमीच गंमतीने म्हणत असतो. आमच्याकडे दोनच ऋतू आहेत. एक म्हणजे उन्हाळा आणि दुसरा म्हणजे कडक उन्हाळा.

शिक्षण घेत असताना एप्रिलच्या पहिल्या आठवड्यातच परीक्षा होवून सुट्या लागायच्या. त्यामुळे ११ एप्रिलचा माझा वाढदिवस अगदी आनंदाने साजरा करता येत होता. हाच आनंद कायम ठेवण्यासाठी मी वर्षभर वाट पहात असतो.
