You get to build your perfect space for reading and writing. What’s it like?

I have a dream. I want to have my own farmhouse outside the city, surrounded by dense forests. There should be no noise from vehicles or people. Birds would chirp. There should be clean light coming through the windows in an old-fashioned house. There should be a pile of new books on the writing table. And there should be a lot of quiet time...that's all.

“No matter how noisy it is, I can read a whole novel even in such an environment. If necessary, I can also write notes on it,” it is safe to assume that a person who claims to be either bragging is lying in a hurry. Maybe he does. But I have not yet met a person who says that he got the intellectual pleasure of reading or that his writing was very good even when he sat down to write in very noisy conditions. I need a table and chair in a corner of a room with enough light to read or write. Most importantly, I need extreme silence to maintain my mood. Only then can I concentrate on writing or reading.

माझं एक स्वप्न आहे. शहराबाहेर आपलं स्वतःचं दाट झाडीने वेढलेले फार्महाऊस असावे. तिथे वाहनांचा गोंगाट  किंवा माणसांचा कलकलाट अजिबात असू नये. पक्षांचा किलबिलाट चालेल. जुन्या पद्धतीने बांधलेल्या घरात खिडकीवाटे येणारा स्वच्छ प्रकाश असावा. लेखनकार्याच्या टेबलावर नव्या पुस्तकांचा ढीग असावा. आणि खूप निवांत वेळ असावा...बस्स आणखी काही नको.

“कितीही गोंगाट असो मी मात्र असल्या वातावरणातही पूर्ण कादंबरी वाचून काढतो. झालंच तर त्यावर टिपणी देखील मी लिहून काढू शकतो” असा दावा करणारा माणूस हा एकतर फुशारकी म्हणून धादांत खोटे बोलतोय असं समजायला हरकत नाही. कदाचित तो तशी क्रिया करतही असेल. पण म्हणून त्याने वाचनाचा बौद्धिक आनंद मिळवला किंवा अतिशय गोंगाटात देखील लिहायला बसल्यावर त्याचं लेखन अतिशय कसदार होतं असं सांगणारा माणूस अजूनतरी मला भेटला नाही. मला तर वाचन किंवा लेखन करायला पुरेसा प्रकाश असलेल्या खोलीत अगदी खिडकी जवळच्या कोपऱ्यात टेबल-खुर्ची लागते. मुख्य म्हणजे माझा मूड कायम राहण्यासाठी मला कमालीची शांतता लागते. तरच लेखन किंवा वाचनावर मी एकाग्र होवू शकतो.
