What experiences in life helped you grow the most?

While striving for a job after completing my college education, I entered the field of journalism solely because of my passion for writing. However, this is where my life truly took shape. Journalism exposed me to a wide range of subjects, and my interest in writing on diverse topics received continuous encouragement.

Being from a semi-urban area, I had no particular reason to have in-depth knowledge about rural life. But journalism allowed me to study and address various rural issues in a well-researched manner. What I witnessed was vastly different from the romanticized portrayal of village life in stories, novels, or films.

I gained firsthand insights into the severe water scarcity, neglect of education, unemployment, and superstitions born out of ignorance in rural areas. As I delved deeper into these issues, my understanding and maturity grew significantly. It would not be an exaggeration to say that journalism has been instrumental in enriching my experiences.

Witnessing the problems in rural areas changed my perspective on life. As a journalist, I did not just report the news; I understood the pain of society. Through my writing, I tried to draw attention to these issues. Journalism connected me with the real problems of society and significantly shaped my thoughts.

1. The Serious Issue of Water Scarcity:

I witnessed firsthand how severe the water crisis is in villages. During summer, wells dry up, forcing people to walk miles in search of water, often having to drink contaminated water. Seeing their struggle made me realize the immense privilege of easily accessible facilities in urban life.

2. The Crisis of Unemployment and Migration:

In these agriculture-dependent areas, employment opportunities are extremely limited. There are no supplementary businesses to support farming, and for several months of the year, there is little to no work available. As a result, thousands of people migrate to big cities. Many work as laborers in construction or factories and return to their villages only during festivals. Through the stories of several families, I understood how distressing this situation is.

3. Lack of Basic Facilities and the Cycle of Poverty:

Healthcare, education, and transportation facilities in villages are highly inadequate. There are very few primary healthcare centers, forcing people to travel long distances for medical treatment. The situation in education is similar—schools exist, but the quality of education is poor, limiting future opportunities. All of this continues to strengthen the cycle of poverty.

4. The Plight of the Uneducated and Superstitions:

Uneducated people face numerous challenges. They do not understand government schemes, often fall victim to fraud, and sometimes get trapped in superstitions. These experiences made me deeply realize the true power of education.

महाविद्यालयीन शिक्षण पूर्ण करत नोकरीसाठी प्रयत्नशील असतानाच माझी केवळ लिखाणाची आवड लक्षात घेऊन मला पत्रकारितेच्या क्षेत्रात प्रवेश मिळाला. पण खऱ्या अर्थाने माझ्या आयुष्याला इथेच आकार मिळाला. पत्रकारितेमुळे अनेक विषयांचा मला परिसस्पर्श झाला. वेगवेगळ्या विषयांवर वैविध्यपूर्ण लेखनाच्या माझ्या आवडीला इथे प्रोत्साहन मिळत गेले. माझ्या सारख्या निमशहरी भागात राहणाऱ्याला ग्रामीण जीवनाबद्दल सखोल माहिती असण्याचे कोणतेच कारण नव्हते. पण पत्रकारितेमुळे ग्रामीण भागातील अनेक प्रश्न अभ्यासपूर्ण पद्धतीने हाताळता आले. कथा-कादंबरी किंवा चित्रपटातून दाखविण्यात येणाऱ्या ग्रामीण जीवनापेक्षा अगदी उलट चित्र बघायला मिळाले. ग्रामीण भागातील पाणी टंचाई, शिक्षणाविषयीची अनास्था, बेरोजगारी, अज्ञानातून निर्माण झालेली अंधश्रद्धा यावर अभ्यासपूर्ण पद्धतीने वाचा फोडताना माझ्यामधील प्रगल्भता वाढत गेली. केवळ पत्रकारितेमुळेच मी अनुभवसंपन्न झालो असे म्हटल्यास वावगे ठरणार नाही.

ग्रामीण भागातील समस्या पाहून जीवनाकडे बघण्याचा माझा दृष्टिकोन बदलला. एक पत्रकार म्हणून मी फक्त बातम्या दिल्या नाहीत, तर त्या समाजाच्या वेदना समजून घेतल्या. माझ्या लेखणीने या प्रश्नांकडे लक्ष वेधण्याचा प्रयत्न केला. पत्रकारितेने मला समाजाच्या खऱ्या समस्यांशी जोडले, आणि माझ्या विचारांमध्ये मोठी वाढ घडवून आणली.

1. पाणीटंचाईचा गंभीर प्रश्न :-

गावागावांत पाण्याचे दुर्भिक्ष किती गंभीर आहे, हे मी प्रत्यक्ष पाहिले. उन्हाळ्यात विहिरी कोरड्या पडतात, पाण्यासाठी मैलोनमैल पायपीट करावी लागते, आणि अनेकदा दूषित पाणी प्यावे लागते. पाण्यासाठी लोकांना करावी लागणारी कसरत पाहून, शहरी जीवनातील सहज उपलब्ध असणाऱ्या सुविधा किती मोठ्या आहेत, याची जाणीव झाली.

2. बेरोजगारी आणि स्थलांतराचे संकट :-

शेती अवलंबून असलेल्या या भागांत रोजगाराच्या संधी अत्यंत कमी आहेत. शेतीला पूरक व्यवसाय नाहीत, आणि वर्षातील काही महिने शेतीला कामच नसते. त्यामुळे हजारो लोक मोठ्या शहरांकडे स्थलांतर करतात. मजुरीसाठी, बांधकाम व्यवसायात, किंवा फॅक्टरीमध्ये काम करणारे अनेक जण आपल्या गावाला फक्त सणासुदीला परत येतात. ही परिस्थिती किती क्लेशदायक आहे, हे मी अनेक कुटुंबांच्या कहाणीतून समजून घेतले.

3. सोयी-सुविधांचा अभाव आणि गरिबीचे चक्र :-

आरोग्य, शिक्षण, आणि दळणवळणाच्या सुविधा या गावांमध्ये अत्यंत मर्यादित असतात. प्राथमिक आरोग्य केंद्रे कमी आहेत, औषधोपचार मिळवण्यासाठी लोकांना अनेक किलोमीटर प्रवास करावा लागतो. शिक्षणाच्या बाबतीतही हीच अवस्था—शाळा असूनही शिक्षण अपुरे, आणि त्यामुळे पुढे जाऊन चांगली संधी मिळत नाही. हे सगळे गरिबीच्या चक्राला अधिक घट्ट करत राहते.

4. अशिक्षितांचे दुःख आणि अंधश्रद्धा :-

अशिक्षित लोक अनेक अडचणींमध्ये सापडतात. सरकारच्या योजना समजत नाहीत, फसवणुकीचे बळी ठरतात, आणि कधी कधी अंधश्रद्धांमध्ये अडकतात. शिक्षणाची ताकद काय असते, हे मी अशा घटनांमधून प्रकर्षाने जाणवले.
