How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success?

Failure is often said to be the first step toward success. In my own life, failure has taught me invaluable lessons. In the early days, my writings were frequently rejected by newspapers, magazines, and weeklies. Some well-known publications even sent my articles back by post with remarks stating that they were not worthy of publication.

I still remember the moment when my father saw one such returned parcel—he was furious. At that time, I was still in school. He scolded me, questioning why I was wasting my time on such futile endeavors.

However, looking back today, I realize that it was those very failures that helped me grow. They taught me to write with greater maturity and connect more effectively with my readers. Through experience, I developed my own writing style, and now, I receive a wonderful response from my audience.

Failure is never permanent; it is merely an obstacle at a certain stage. While moving toward success, failure is not a stopping point but an opportunity to learn. Those who view failure with a positive mindset are the ones who eventually achieve great success in the future.

Everyone faces failure at some point in life. However, failure is not an obstacle; rather, it is a crucial step toward future success. The lessons learned from failure help develop greater maturity, experience, and an improved perspective for the future.

(B) Key Lessons Taught by Failure :-

1. Opportunity to Understand One’s Mistakes :-
   When failure occurs, a person tends to analyze themselves and their efforts more closely. It provides an opportunity to identify what went wrong, where improvements can be made, and how to perform better next time.
2. Builds Courage and Perseverance :-
   Failure strengthens mental resilience. If success is not achieved on the first attempt, a person often prepares with even greater determination for the next opportunity. This perseverance and effort lay the foundation for future success.
3. Gains Maturity and Experience :-
   Experience is crucial for achieving success, and experience comes from failure. Facing difficult situations prepares a person to tackle future challenges more effectively.
4. Helps Determine the Right Direction :-
   Sometimes, failure guides a person toward the right path. It clarifies which things should not be part of the journey. Many times, after experiencing failure, a person chooses a new direction, which ultimately leads them to success.
5. Develops Problem-Solving Skills :-
   Failure changes the way one thinks. At times, it forces a person to explore new approaches. This broadens their perspective on problems and helps discover innovative solutions.

• Thomas Edison – His experiments failed thousands of times before he finally succeeded in inventing the electric bulb. In his words, “I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”
• Abraham Lincoln – Despite facing multiple political defeats, he never gave up and eventually became one of the greatest presidents of the United States.
• Steve Jobs – He was removed from his own company, but the lessons from that experience led him to take Apple to historic heights later.

“सुरुवातीला मिळालेल्या अपयशानेच मला लिहायला शिकवलं…!”

अपयश हे यशाच्या दिशेने टाकलेले पहिले पाऊल असते असे म्हणतात. माझ्या स्वतःच्या आयुष्यातही अपयशाने मोठी शिकवण दिली आहे. सुरुवातीच्या काळात अनेकदा माझ्या लिखाणाला वृत्तपत्रे, मासिके, साप्ताहिकांनी नाकारले होते. अगदी काही प्रतिथयश वृत्तपत्रांनी तर प्रसिद्धीच्या लायक नसलेले लिखाण असा शेरा मारून माझे आर्टिकल पोस्टाने परत पाठवून दिले होते. ते पार्सल पाहून वडील प्रचंड संतापले होते. अर्थात त्यावेळी मी शालेय वयात होतो. हे नसते उद्योग करायला कुणी सांगितले ? असं म्हणत त्यांनी मला चार खडेबोल सुनावले होते. पण आज त्या अपयशामुळेच मी जास्त समजूतदारपणे लेखन करू शकतो, वाचकांशी अधिक प्रभावीपणे संवाद साधू शकतो. अनुभवातूनच माझी लेखनशैली विकसित झाली असून वाचकांचा मला उत्तम प्रतिसाद मिळत आहे.

अपयश कायमस्वरूपी नसते, ती फक्त एका टप्प्यावर आलेली अडचण असते. यशाच्या दिशेने वाटचाल करताना, अपयश म्हणजे थांबण्याचे ठिकाण नसून शिकण्याची संधी आहे. ज्या व्यक्ती अपयशाकडे सकारात्मक दृष्टिकोनातून पाहतात, त्या नक्कीच भविष्यात मोठे यश संपादन करतात.

(अ) अपयशाची शिदोरी: पुढील यशासाठीचा पाया :-

जीवनात प्रत्येकाला कधी ना कधी अपयशाचा सामना करावा लागतो. पण हे अपयश म्हणजे अडथळा नसून पुढील यशासाठीचा एक महत्त्वाचा टप्पा असतो. अपयशातून शिकलेल्या धड्यांमुळे भविष्यात अधिक परिपक्वता, अनुभव आणि सुधारित दृष्टिकोन तयार होतो.

(ब) अपयशाने शिकवलेले महत्त्वाचे धडे :-

1. स्वतःच्या चुका समजून घेण्याची संधी :-
   अपयश आल्यावर माणूस स्वतःकडे आणि आपल्या प्रयत्नांकडे अधिक बारकाईने पाहतो. कोणत्या गोष्टी चुकल्या, कुठे सुधारणा करता येईल, आणि पुढच्या वेळी कसे चांगले करता येईल याचा विचार करण्याची संधी मिळते.
2. धैर्य आणि चिकाटी वाढवते :-
   अपयशाने मानसिक ताकद वाढते. जर पहिल्याच प्रयत्नात यश मिळाले नाही, तर अनेकदा माणूस जास्त ताकदीने पुढच्या संधीसाठी तयारी करतो. हेच चिकाटी आणि प्रयत्न पुढील यशाचा पाया घालतात.
3. परिपक्वता आणि अनुभव मिळतो :-
   यश मिळवण्यासाठी अनुभव महत्त्वाचा असतो, आणि अनुभव अपयशातूनच मिळतो. एखाद्या कठीण प्रसंगातून गेल्यावर पुढील आव्हानांना सामोरे जाण्याची तयारी अधिक चांगली होते.
4. योग्य दिशा ठरवता येते :-
   कधी कधी अपयश आपल्याला योग्य दिशेने मार्गक्रमण करण्यास मदत करते. ज्या गोष्टी आपल्या प्रवासाचा भाग नसाव्यात, त्या स्पष्ट होतात. अनेक वेळा माणूस अपयशानंतर नवीन दिशा निवडतो आणि तीच त्याला यशाकडे घेऊन जाते.
5. समस्या सोडवण्याची क्षमता विकसित होते :-
   अपयशाने विचार करण्याच्या पद्धतीत बदल होतो. काही वेळा नवनवीन मार्ग शोधावे लागतात. यामुळे समस्यांकडे पाहण्याची दृष्टी विस्तारित होते आणि नवीन उपाय सापडतात.

(क) खऱ्या आयुष्यातील उदाहरणे :-

• थॉमस एडिसन – हजारो वेळा प्रयोग अपयशी झाले, पण शेवटी विजेचा बल्ब यशस्वी झाला. त्याच्या शब्दांत, “मी अपयशी झालो नाही, मी फक्त १०,००० मार्ग शोधले, जे काम करत नाहीत.”
• अब्राहम लिंकन – अनेक राजकीय पराभवानंतरही त्यांनी प्रयत्न सोडले नाहीत आणि अखेरीस अमेरिकेचे महान राष्ट्रपती झाले.
• स्टिव्ह जॉब्स – त्यांना स्वतःच्या कंपनीतून बाहेर काढण्यात आले, पण त्याच अनुभवातून पुढे जाऊन त्यांनी Apple कंपनीला ऐतिहासिक उंचीवर नेले.
