Who was your most influential teacher? Why?
At the age of 58, when I look back at my school life, some memories remain clear while others have faded. Many teachers had a positive impact on my life, but I no longer remember their faces distinctly. However, their teachings continue to influence my personality even today. Among them, the teacher who inspired me the most and remains unforgettable is D. K. Pawar Sir. I don’t recall his full name now, but just hearing his mention brings back memories of his energetic teaching style and insightful approach to learning.
A teacher’s role is not limited to just teaching in the classroom; they are mentors who shape students' abilities and brighten their future. Having such teachers in my life is one of my greatest assets.
- Encouragement for Public Speaking :-
My father was an engineer in a sugar factory, which meant that I had to study in different places. During my time in Marali (Taluka Patan), Satara district, Pawar Sir was my teacher. Back then, I was a simple, quiet student who was unaware of my own potential. However, Pawar Sir constantly encouraged me to participate in public speaking competitions.
Every student has some talent, but they may realize it early, late, or only through a teacher’s guidance. Pawar Sir recognized my confidence in speaking and motivated me continuously. Because of his encouragement, I started participating in various public speaking competitions.
- Oratory Skills and Confidence :-
There are certain turning points in every person’s life that shape their future. Participating in public speaking competitions helped me develop my oratory skills, boosted my confidence, and taught me the art of expressing my thoughts in front of an audience. Pawar Sir played a significant role in making this happen.
- Memories of My Teacher and Our Conversation :-
As time passed, life changed. Education was completed, and work and responsibilities grew. However, the memories of my teachers never faded. In November 2024, while I was in Satara, I spoke with Pawar Sir over the phone. That conversation brought back old memories. It reminded me once again that the confidence I have today in communicating effectively is a result of the inspiration he gave me back then.
- The Lasting Influence of a Teacher :-
Today, I can stand on any stage and express my thoughts effortlessly. The foundation of this confidence was laid by Pawar Sir during my school years. His guidance has helped me become more effective in writing, presenting ideas, and communication skills.
A teacher’s influence is not limited to the classroom; it lasts a lifetime. Pawar Sir is a perfect example of this enduring impact.
“शालेय जीवनात मला भेटले सर्वाधिक प्रभावशाली शिक्षक…!”
वयाच्या ५८ व्या वर्षी मी जेव्हा मागे वळून शालेय जीवनाकडे पाहतो, तेव्हा त्या काळातील काही आठवणी स्पष्ट तर काही धूसर वाटतात. अनेक शिक्षकांनी माझ्या जीवनावर चांगला प्रभाव टाकला, पण त्यांच्या चेहऱ्यांच्या स्पष्ट आठवणी आता राहिलेल्या नाहीत. मात्र, त्यांच्या शिकवणीचा प्रभाव आजही माझ्या व्यक्तिमत्त्वावर कायम आहे. माझ्या शालेय जीवनात मला विशेष प्रेरणा देणारे आणि कायम स्मरणात राहिलेले शिक्षक म्हणजे डी. के. पवार सर. त्यांचे पूर्ण नाव आता आठवत नाही, पण त्यांचा उल्लेख जरी झाला तरी मला त्यांच्या शिकवणीतील ऊर्जा आणि त्यांची विचारसरणी आठवते.
केवळ वर्गात शिकवणे एव्हढेच शिक्षकांचे काम नसते, तर विद्यार्थ्यांच्या क्षमतांना आकार देणारे आणि त्यांचे भविष्य उज्ज्वल करणारे ते मार्गदर्शक असतात. मला असे शिक्षक लाभले, ही माझ्या जीवनातील मोठी संपत्ती आहे.
१. वक्तृत्वासाठी मिळालेले प्रोत्साहन :-
माझे वडील साखर कारखान्यात अभियंता होते, त्यामुळे माझे शिक्षण विविध ठिकाणी झाले. सातारा जिल्ह्यातील मरळी (ता. पाटण) येथे असताना पवार सर मला शिकवायला होते. त्या काळात मी साधा, शांत स्वभावाचा विद्यार्थी होतो. माझ्यातील क्षमता मला फारशी माहीत नव्हती. पण पवार सरांनी मला वक्तृत्व स्पर्धेत भाग घेण्यासाठी सतत प्रोत्साहित केले.
प्रत्येक विद्यार्थ्यामध्ये काही ना काही क्षमता असते, पण ती त्याला कधी कळते, कधी उशिरा कळते, तर कधी कधी शिक्षकांच्या मार्गदर्शनामुळे उलगडली जाते. पवार सरांनी माझ्यातील बोलण्याचा आत्मविश्वास ओळखला आणि मला सतत प्रोत्साहन दिले. त्यांच्या सततच्या प्रोत्साहनामुळेच मी विविध वक्तृत्व स्पर्धांमध्ये भाग घ्यायला लागलो.
२. सभाधीटपणा आणि आत्मविश्वास :-
प्रत्येक व्यक्तीच्या जीवनात असे काही टप्पे असतात, जे त्याच्या भविष्यासाठी महत्त्वाचे ठरतात. वक्तृत्व स्पर्धांमध्ये भाग घेतल्याने माझा सभाधीटपणा वाढला, आत्मविश्वास विकसित झाला आणि लोकांसमोर आपले विचार मांडण्याची कला आत्मसात करता आली. हे सर्व घडवून आणण्यात पवार सरांचा मोठा वाटा होता.
३. शिक्षकांची आठवण आणि संवाद :-
समयाच्या ओघात जीवन बदलत गेले. शिक्षण पूर्ण झाले, नोकरी आणि जबाबदाऱ्या वाढल्या. पण, शिक्षकांची आठवण मात्र कधीही पुसली गेली नाही. नोव्हेंबर २०२४ मध्ये मी सातारा मुक्कामी असताना पवार सरांशी मोबाईलवर बोललो. त्यांच्याशी संवाद साधताना जुन्या आठवणी पुन्हा ताज्या झाल्या. त्यांनी दिलेल्या प्रेरणेमुळेच आज मी आत्मविश्वासाने संवाद साधू शकतो, याची जाणीव त्या संभाषणाने मला पुन्हा करून दिली.
४. शिक्षकांचा कायमस्वरूपी प्रभाव :-
आज मी कोणत्याही मंचावर उभा राहून सहजपणे विचार मांडू शकतो, त्याचे मूळ पवार सरांनी माझ्या शालेय जीवनात रुजवलेल्या आत्मविश्वासात आहे. त्यांच्या मार्गदर्शनामुळेच मी माझ्या लेखन, विचारमांडणी आणि संवादकलेत अधिक प्रभावी बनू शकलो. शिक्षकांचा प्रभाव हा शाळेपुरता मर्यादित नसतो, तो आयुष्यभर टिकतो. पवार सर हे त्याचे उत्तम उदाहरण आहेत.
