What’s a secret skill or ability you have or wish you had?
Having been in the field of journalism for the past three decades, I have developed the habit of maintaining confidentiality regarding many individuals and events. This is an essential skill in journalism because revealing sensitive information prematurely can have adverse consequences. Therefore, disseminating the right information at the right time is a significant responsibility.
I was able to master this skill through immense effort and experience. Only a journalist truly understands the intensity of the impact when something is made public and how society reacts to it. Very few outside the field can grasp the far-reaching consequences of such revelations.
Overall, the ability to handle confidential information properly and reveal it at the right time is a skill I have acquired throughout my journey in journalism, and I consider it one of my key strengths.
- Confidentiality for Truth Verification :-
I handle confidential information with utmost restraint and do not disclose it without verifying its accuracy. In many such cases, exposing the truth at the right time brings to light injustices, fraud, or unethical practices in society. Through this process, I do not merely act as a journalist uncovering a story but also as a responsible citizen committed to truth-seeking.
- Testing Information Against Time :-
It took me time to master this skill, but with experience, I have refined it further. I have consciously learned to maintain relationships with reliable sources, analyze received information objectively without emotional bias, and publish it only after thoroughly verifying it against the test of time.
“योग्य वेळी गौप्यस्फोट करणे हे एक कौशल्य…!”
मी पत्रकारितेच्या क्षेत्रात गेल्या तीन दशकांपासून असल्याने अनेक व्यक्ती आणि घटनांबाबत गोपनीयता राखण्याची सवय मला लागली आहे. पत्रकारितेमधील हे एक महत्वाचे कौशल्य आहे. कारण संवेदनशील माहिती वेळेपूर्वी उघड केल्यास त्याचे विपरीत परिणाम होवू शकतात. त्यामुळे योग्य वेळी योग्य माहिती सार्वजनिक करणे ही एक प्रकारची जबाबदारी असते. मला हे कौशल्य खूप परिश्रमातून साध्य करता आले. यावेळी एखादी गोष्ट सार्वजनिक केली तर त्याच्या परिणामांची तीव्रता काय असते, त्याचे समाजात पडसाद कसे उमटू शकतात ? हे पत्रकारशिवाय क्वचितच कुणाला माहीत असावे….!
एकूणच गुप्त माहितीची योग्य हाताळणी आणि योग्य वेळी उघडकीस आणण्याचे कौशल्य मला माझ्या पत्रकारितेच्या प्रवासात लाभले आहे, आणि हेच माझे एक महत्वाचे वैशिष्ट्य मी मानतो.
१. सत्यशोधनासाठी गोपनीयता :-
मी गोपनीय माहिती हाताळताना अत्यंत संयम बाळगतो आणि ती सत्यता तपासल्याशिवाय उघड करत नाही. अशा अनेक घटनांमध्ये, योग्य वेळी पर्दाफाश केल्याने समाजातील अन्याय, फसवणूक किंवा अपप्रवृत्तींचा प्रत्यक्ष परिणाम दिसतो. या प्रक्रियेमध्ये केवळ बातमी उघड करणारा पत्रकार म्हणून नव्हे, तर सत्यशोधन करणारा जबाबदार नागरिक म्हणूनही माझी भूमिका असते.
२. वेळेच्या कसोटीवर माहिती तपासणे :-
हे कौशल्य आत्मसात करण्यासाठी मला वेळ लागला, पण अनुभवाच्या जोरावर मी हे अधिक प्रगल्भ बनवत आहे. विश्वासार्ह स्रोतांशी नातं टिकवणं, मिळालेल्या माहितीकडे भावनिक न होता तटस्थपणे पाहणं, आणि वेळेच्या कसोटीवर माहिती पडताळूनच ती प्रसिद्ध करणं—हे मी जाणीवपूर्वक शिकलो.
