Is the debate over religious supremacy the only reason for the division of the world?

The debate over religious supremacy is undoubtedly one of the major causes of global unrest and division. However, there are several other significant factors contributing to this issue. Social division and conflicts arise due to multiple reasons, including economic, social, political, cultural, and geographical factors, which are equally influential.

It is only a partial truth to say that societal division occurs solely due to ethnic and religious conflicts. Many nations have a predominant religion, yet internal divisions within their societies are evident. On the other hand, in countries with diverse religious communities, societal divisions often stem from political, social, economic, cultural, and geographical reasons rather than purely religious conflicts.

History shows that religious power and political power have existed independently, maintaining their dominance in different ways. The entire world has, in a way, been divided between these two forces—religious authority and political authority. As a result, secularism on a global scale appears to be losing its influence.

The debate over religious supremacy is undoubtedly one of the major causes of global division. However, factors such as the pursuit of power, economic inequality, social discrimination, and modern technology also play a significant role. To maintain global peace and unity, emphasis must be placed on religious tolerance, education, and mutual respect.

Religion, fundamentally, is meant to unite society. However, when any religion considers itself superior to others, conflicts arise. Political leaders and religious figures often use religion to incite people, leading to riots, wars, and separatist movements. Examples include:

धर्माच्या श्रेष्ठत्वाचा वाद हा नक्कीच जगाच्या अशांततेचे किंवा विभागणी मागील एक महत्वाचे कारण आहे, पण याबरोबरच आणखीही काही महत्वाची कारणे आहेत. समाजाची विभागणी आणि संघर्ष अनेक घटकांमुळे होत असतो. त्यामध्ये आर्थिक, सामाजिक, राजकीय, सांस्कृतिक आणि भौगोलिक कारणेही तितकीच प्रभावी आहेत. फक्त वांशिक आणि धार्मिक संघर्षातून समाजाची विभागणी होतेय हे देखील अर्धसत्यच आहे. एकाच धर्माचा प्रभाव असणारे अनेक देश आहेत, पण त्या देशांमध्ये समाजामध्ये विभागणी झाल्याचे आपल्याला दिसते. याउलट बहुविध धर्म असणाऱ्या देशांमध्ये धार्मिक संघर्ष असला तरी समाजाची विभागणी ही राजकीय, सामाजिक, आर्थिक, सांस्कृतिक आणि भौगोलिक कारणांवरून होताना दिसते. प्राचीन काळापासून धर्मसत्ता आणि राजसत्ता ह्या वेगवेगळ्या स्वतंत्रपणे आपले वर्चस्व राखून असल्याचे इतिहासातून दिसते. संपूर्ण जगच धर्मसत्ता आणि राजसत्ता ह्या दोन शक्तींमध्ये विभाजित झाले आहे. त्यामुळे जगभरातील निधर्मीवाद हा निष्प्रभ ठरत आहे.

धर्माच्या श्रेष्ठत्वाचा वाद हा नक्कीच जगातील विभागणीचे एक प्रमुख कारण आहे, पण त्यासोबतच सत्ताकांक्षा, आर्थिक असमानता , सामाजिक भेदभाव आणि आधुनिक तंत्रज्ञानाचाही मोठा प्रभाव आहे. जगातील शांती आणि एकता टिकवायची असेल तर  धार्मिक सहिष्णुता, शिक्षण आणि पारस्पारिक  आदर यावर भर द्यावा लागेल.

धर्म हा मूलत: समाजाला जोडणारा घटक असला तरी, जेव्हा कोणताही धर्म स्वतःला इतरांपेक्षा श्रेष्ठ मानतो, तेव्हा संघर्ष निर्माण होतो. अनेक वेळा राजकीय नेते आणि धार्मिक गुरु धर्माचा उपयोग जनतेला भडकवण्यासाठी करतात, ज्यामुळे धर्माधारित दंगे, युद्धे आणि फुटीरतावादी हालचाली वाढतात. उदाहरणार्थ,

• मध्ययुगातील क्रूसेड युद्धे (इस्लाम विरुद्ध ख्रिस्ती धर्म)
• भारत-पाकिस्तान फाळणी
• इस्रायल-पॅलेस्टाईन संघर्ष
• धार्मिक कट्टरवाद आणि दहशतवाद

2. राजकीय सत्ता आणि सत्तासंघर्ष :-

धर्माचा वापर अनेकदा सत्तेसाठी केला जातो. काही सरकारे विशिष्ट धर्माला अधिक प्राधान्य देतात, तर काही ठिकाणी धर्माचा वापर करून लोकांमध्ये फूट पाडली जाते. अशा परिस्थितीत, समाजात धार्मिक धृवीकरण होते आणि एका गटाविषयी संशय निर्माण केला जातो.

3. आर्थिक असमानता आणि सामाजिक विभाजन :-

जगातील अनेक भागांमध्ये धर्म आणि जातीच्या आधारे आर्थिक संधी उपलब्ध करून दिल्या जातात. यामुळे गरीब-श्रीमंत यांच्यात दरी वाढते आणि धर्माच्या आधारे लोक वेगळे पडतात. उदाहरणार्थ,

• भारतातील जातीय आधारित सामाजिक भेदभाव
• मध्यपूर्वेत तेलसंपत्तीमुळे निर्माण झालेल्या धार्मिक गटांमधील तणाव

भौगोलिक परिस्थितीनुसार काही धर्म प्रबळ असतात, आणि त्यांचा प्रभाव त्यांच्या सभोवतालच्या समाजांवरही पडतो. स्थलांतर, व्यापार, आणि आक्रमणामुळे वेगवेगळ्या धर्मांचे लोक एकत्र आले, पण त्यांच्यात सतत संघर्ष होत राहिले.

आजच्या डिजिटल युगात धार्मिक संघर्ष अधिक तीव्र होत आहेत, कारण सोशल मीडियाच्या माध्यमातून चुकीची माहिती, अफवा आणि द्वेषयुक्त प्रचार सहज पसरवला जातो. यामुळे धर्माच्या नावाखाली हिंसाचार आणि समाजात फूट वाढते.
