The excessive use of the newly updated Studio Ghibli image generator caused the ChatGPT outage. In India, the service was down between 4:00 PM and 5:30 PM. This disruption affected both the app and API services.

Studio Ghibli is a renowned Japanese animation studio founded in 1985 by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. In Japanese, it is called ‘Jīburi,’ while in Italian, it is pronounced ‘Ghibli.’ The unique image style developed by them has gained immense popularity on social media.

This historic outage of ChatGPT highlighted both the popularity and limitations of AI technology. Studio Ghibli is known for its artistic style, mystical storytelling, and themes such as nature, human relationships, dreams, and self-discovery.
