About thirty years ago, I made a decision that shaped my entire life — I chose to rely solely on my innate writing ability for a living. At that time, it was indeed a bold decision. Most people around me were chasing more secure and better-paying jobs. But deep within, I had a firm belief — that words have the power not only to tell stories but also to shape lives.
Looking back, I feel that this was the most important and fulfilling decision of my life. It shaped me not just as a writer, but as a human being. Through writing, I learned the values of patience, humility, empathy, and most importantly — the art of listening to my inner voice.
♦️ A Decision Taken in Youthful Recklessness
While I was still in college, I casually wrote a one-act play called “Sapala” just for fun. My friends and I staged it for a competition. That playful attempt slowly turned into a passion. As I continued writing plays, I also began writing for newspapers. Eventually, I found a job in the same field. For the past thirty years, I’ve been consistently involved in journalism and playwriting. I’ve received several awards for my writing and earned recognition as a playwright.
♦️ A Journey Full of Challenges
The journey on this path wasn’t easy. I faced several financial difficulties, had no guarantee of future work, and many people around me couldn’t understand why I had made such a choice. There were many nights filled with doubts, disappointment, and self-reflection. But I continued to trust my writing and its power.
♦️ Gained Fulfillment Over Wealth
I never made a lot of money in this field, but I gained things far more valuable — personal growth and deep inner contentment. Writing helped me understand the depth of my emotions, thoughts, and imagination. It connected me with society and gave me the joy of contributing something meaningful.
♦️ Earned Recognition as a Writer
Eventually, people started recognizing me as a “writer.” The love and feedback I received from readers, and hearing how my words touched or changed their lives, gave me true fulfillment. This kind of recognition is far more precious than fame or money — because it is a bond formed from the heart.
“लेखनाच्या वाटेने आयुष्य घडविणारा निर्णय….!”
सुमारे तीस वर्षांपूर्वी मी एक असा निर्णय घेतला, ज्याने माझ्या संपूर्ण आयुष्याला आकार दिला — मी केवळ अंगीभूत असलेल्या लेखनशैलीवरच उदरनिर्वाह करण्याचा निर्णय घेतला. त्या काळात हा निर्णय धाडसी वाटावा, असाच होता. माझ्या आजूबाजूचे बहुतांश लोक अधिक सुरक्षित, अधिक पैसे मिळणाऱ्या नोकऱ्यांच्या मागे लागले होते. पण माझ्या आत खोल कुठेतरी एक विश्वास होता — शब्दात केवळ गोष्टी सांगण्याचीच नाही, तर आयुष्य घडवण्याचीही ताकद असते.
मागे वळून पाहताना, मला वाटतं की हा निर्णय माझ्या आयुष्यातला सर्वात महत्त्वाचा आणि समाधान देणारा निर्णय होता. याने मला केवळ लेखक म्हणून नाही, तर माणूस म्हणूनही घडवलं. संयम, नम्रता, सहवेदना आणि सर्वांत महत्त्वाचं — स्वतःच्या आतल्या आवाजाकडे कान देण्याची कला लेखनातूनच शिकता आली.
♦️मिसरूड फुटलेल्या वयात निर्णय
मी महाविद्यालयीन वयात असताना सहज गंमत म्हणून “सापळा” नावाची एकांकिका लिहिली. आम्ही मित्रांनी मिळूनच त्या एकांकिकेचे स्पर्धेत प्रयोग केले. पुढे ही आवड वाढत गेली. एकांकिका लेखन करत असतानाच वर्तमानपत्रातून लेखन सुरू झाले. मग त्याच क्षेत्रात नोकरी मिळाली. गेल्या तीस वर्षांच्या काळात पत्रकारिता आणि नाट्य लेखन सुरूच आहे. लेखनाचे अनेक पुरस्कार मिळाले. नाट्य लेखक म्हणून ओळख मिळाली.
♦️प्रवास अनंत अडचणींचा
या वाटेवरचा प्रवास काही सोपा नव्हता. आर्थिकदृष्ट्या अनेक अडचणी आल्या, पुढील कामाची हमी नसायची, आणि समाजातले अनेक जण हा निर्णय का घेतला हे समजून घ्यायलाही तयार नव्हते. अनेकदा शंका, निराशा आणि आत्मपरीक्षणाने भरलेल्या रात्री येत असत. पण मी माझ्या लेखनावर आणि त्याच्या सामर्थ्यावर विश्वास ठेवत राहिलो.
♦️ पैश्यापेक्षा समाधान कमावले
या क्षेत्रात मी कधीच फार मोठे पैसे कमावले नाहीत, पण त्यापेक्षा मौल्यवान गोष्टी मला लाभल्या — स्वतःची प्रगती आणि अंतर्मनातलं समाधान. लेखनाने मला माझ्या भावना, विचार आणि कल्पनांची खोली समजून घेता आली. ते मला समाजाशी जोडत गेलं आणि अर्थपूर्ण काहीतरी देण्याचा आनंद मिळत गेला.
♦️लेखक म्हणून ओळख मिळाली
कालांतराने, मला ‘लेखक’ म्हणून ओळख मिळू लागली. वाचकांकडून मिळणाऱ्या प्रेमाने, त्यांच्या अभिप्रायाने आणि शब्दांनी त्यांचं आयुष्य कसं बदललं हे ऐकून खऱ्या अर्थाने समाधान मिळत गेलं. प्रसिद्धी किंवा पैशांपेक्षा याचं मोल कितीतरी अधिक आहे — कारण ही ओळख मनातून जोडलेली असते.
