Memories are treasures carefully stored in the chest of time. Just as childhood memories dwell in toys and sweet conversations, they also reside in the collections we once lovingly built and preserved. Collecting things as a child is not merely a hobby – it’s a culture, a soul-nourishing habit. Some collections survive, while others fade away in the flow of time. But a few journey with us for years – along with the memories they carry. For me, one such treasured memory is the record player my father brought home, along with his priceless collection of records.
(1) A Collection of Stamps and Marbles – The Early Habit
From early childhood, I had a sweet habit of collecting various things. I had built a small collection of postage stamps from different countries and states. Along with that, I also had a neat collection of animal and bird picture cards and colorful marbles. I still remember the joy and curiosity behind that hobby. But over time, all of it gradually faded away, and I regret not being able to preserve it.
(2) A Historic Gift from My Father
In 1975, my father lovingly and proudly brought home a record player made by HMV. That day is still fresh in my memory — when something new comes into the house, the entire atmosphere gets filled with excitement, and that was one such moment. At that time, a record player was a symbol of modernity and a deep love for music.
(3) A Legacy of Musical Love
My father was deeply fond of listening to music. He used to joyfully buy records of old film songs, emotionally rich poetry-based tracks, and selected classical pieces. His collection grew every week. The arrival of a new record at home used to feel like a small celebration.
(4) A Childhood Enriched by Music
Our childhood blossomed amidst melodies. As we returned from school, the songs playing on the record player would create a warm ambiance at home. My father would often get lost in the voices of Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, or Bhimsen Joshi. Unknowingly, we too developed a love for music through those moments.
(5) The End of an Era and a Treasure of Memories
After the 1990s, record players slowly became obsolete. Cassettes, CDs, and eventually digital music took over. But the emotional space held by that old device and those records remained in my heart. Though I couldn’t preserve other collections, I carefully safeguarded those records.
(6) Music Alive in Memories
Even today, when there’s silence in the house, my eyes drift toward those old records. Holding them brings back the fragrance of that era. I’m reminded of the simplicity, sweetness, and purity of sound from those times. Those records are more than just a medium of music — they are a tender connection to my father.

This collection of records, built since childhood, is a priceless treasure. It’s not just about music — it holds my father’s love, care, and the aroma of a bygone era. A collection isn’t merely about objects — it’s about emotions and memories. And that’s why such a collection is more valuable than time itself.
“रेकॉर्ड प्लेअरच्या आठवणी :जपून ठेवलेला एक काळ…!”
स्मृती म्हणजे काळाच्या कुपीत साठवलेली जपणूक. बालपणीच्या आठवणी जशा खेळण्यात, गोड गप्पांमध्ये असतात, तशाच त्या आपल्याला लाभलेल्या आणि हळूवार जपलेल्या संग्रहांमध्येही असतात. लहानपणी गोष्टी गोळा करणे ही केवळ हौस नसते – ती एक संस्कृती असते, एक आत्मिक समाधान देणारी सवय असते. काही संग्रह टिकतात, काही काळाच्या प्रवाहात हरवून जातात. पण काही असे असतात, जे वर्षानुवर्षं आपल्या संगतीने चालत राहतात – आठवणींसह. माझ्यासाठी असे जपलेले स्मरण म्हणजे वडिलांनी आणलेला रेकॉर्ड प्लेअर आणि त्याच्या रेकॉर्ड्सचा अनमोल संग्रह.
(१ ) टपाल तिकिटे आणि गोट्यांचा संग्रह – सुरुवातीची सवय
बालवयातच मला विविध गोष्टी जमा करण्याची गोड सवय लागली होती. वेगवेगळ्या देशांची आणि राज्यांची टपाल तिकिटे मिळवून मी एक छोटा संग्रह तयार केला होता. त्याचप्रमाणे पशुपक्ष्यांची चित्र असलेली कार्डस आणि रंगीबेरंगी गोट्यांचा देखील छान संग्रह होता. ती सगळी मजा आणि त्यामागची उत्कंठा आजही आठवते. पण काळाच्या ओघात हे सगळं हरवत गेलं, टिकवलं गेलं नाही, यासाठी हळहळत राहतो.
(२) वडिलांनी आणलेली ऐतिहासिक भेट
१९७५ साली आमच्या घरी वडिलांनी मोठ्या प्रेमाने आणि कौतुकाने एच.एम.व्ही. कंपनीचा रेकॉर्ड प्लेअर आणला. तो दिवस अजूनही माझ्या आठवणीत तसाच आहे — एक नवीन वस्तू घरात आली की सगळं घर कसं उत्साहाने भारून जातं, तसाच तो क्षण. रेकॉर्ड प्लेअर म्हणजे त्या काळात आधुनिकतेचं आणि संगीतप्रेमाचं प्रतिक होतं.
(३)संगीतप्रेमाचा वारसा
वडिलांना गाणी ऐकायची अतिशय आवड होती. जुन्या चित्रपटांची, भावस्पर्शी कविता असलेली गाणी, शास्त्रीय संगीताचे काही निवडक रेकॉर्ड्स ते नेहमी आनंदाने खरेदी करून आणायचे. त्यांचा हा संग्रह दर आठवड्याला वाढत असे. नवीन रेकॉर्ड घरी येणं म्हणजे घरात छोटा सोहळा असायचा.
(४)घरातील संगीताच्या सत्रातलं बालपण
आमचं बालपण गाण्यांच्या नादातच बहरलं. शाळेतून घरी परत आलं की रेकॉर्ड प्लेअरवर लागलेली गाणी वातावरण साद घालायची. वडील कधी किशोरकुमार, कधी लता मंगेशकर तर कधी भीमसेन जोशी यांच्या स्वरांमध्ये हरवून जात. त्या सत्रात आम्हीही नकळत संगीताची गोडी आत्मसात करत गेलो.
(५)रेकॉर्ड प्लेअरचा अस्त आणि आठवणींचा ठेवा
१९९० च्या दशकानंतर रेकॉर्ड प्लेअर हळूहळू मागे पडले. कॅसेट्स, सीडी, आणि शेवटी डिजिटल म्युझिकचा काळ सुरु झाला. पण त्या जुन्या यंत्राचं आणि रेकॉर्ड्सचं स्थान मनात कायमचं राहिलं. इतर काही संग्रह टिकवता आला नाही, पण हे रेकॉर्ड्स मात्र मी काळजीपूर्वक जपून ठेवले.
(६)आठवणींमध्ये जिवंत असलेलं संगीत
आजदेखील कधी घरात शांतता असते, तेव्हा त्या जुन्या रेकॉर्ड्सकडे नजर जाते. हातात घेतलं की त्या काळाचा गंध परत जागा होतो. त्या काळातली साधेपणा, गोडी आणि स्वरांची शुद्धता आठवते. ते रेकॉर्ड्स म्हणजे केवळ संगीताचे माध्यम नाही, तर वडिलांशी जोडलेली एक जिव्हाळ्याची नाळ आहे.
(७) संग्रह म्हणजे स्मरणाचं संचित
लहानपणापासून जमवलेला हा रेकॉर्ड्सचा संग्रह म्हणजे एक अमूल्य ठेवा आहे. त्यात केवळ गाणी नाहीत, तर वडिलांचं प्रेम, काळजी, आणि त्या काळाचा सुगंध सामावलेला आहे. संग्रह हा फक्त वस्तूंचा नसायचा – तो भावनांचा असतो, आठवणींचा असतो. आणि म्हणूनच, त्या संग्रहाची किंमत काळापेक्षा जास्त असते.
