There are certain objects in our daily life that are not just things, but have become an inseparable part of our existence. For me, those are – the mobile phone, pen, and notebook. I have been working in the field of journalism for over three decades now, and this profession has instilled in me the habit of “always being prepared.” Experience has taught me that having the right tools at the right time is the first step toward success. These three tools – pen, notebook, and mobile – are the means of thought, observation, and expression. Today, their importance goes far beyond just my profession; they have become an essential part of my lifestyle. And that’s why I felt like writing a little more in detail about them.
1️⃣ Pen – The First Ink of Thought
For me, a pen is not just a writing tool; it is the first stream of my thoughts. Ideas come in a flash and disappear just as quickly, but with the help of a pen, those fleeting moments can be captured on paper. Whether I’m walking down the street, observing something, or engaged in conversation, the habit of immediately jotting down a thought is something I owe to my pen. Without it, life in journalism feels incomplete.
2️⃣ Notebook – A Museum of Memories
Along with the pen, my notebook is like a personal museum. Information stored in a mobile phone is often forgotten, but what’s written on paper tends to stay with you. In my notebook, I don’t just jot down news, but also document incidents, emotions, reactions, and personality studies. This notebook stands as a witness – to my experiences, conversations, and observations.
3️⃣ Mobile – A Tool for Information and Communication
Over the past 20 years, the mobile phone has become an essential part of life. News, communication, photos, recordings, research, even gauging public opinion through social media – all of this is impossible without a mobile. The mobile phone has transformed the face of journalism. Nowadays, the moment news is received, the process of reporting it begins – all thanks to mobile technology.
4️⃣ The Interconnection of All Three Tools
Though the pen, notebook, and mobile are three independent tools, their impact is much greater when used together. A note written with a pen can immediately be saved digitally on a mobile, and if needed, photos or audio clips can be attached. This trio forms the foundation of a journalist’s credibility.
5️⃣ A Daily Habit
These three items have become such a regular part of my routine that stepping out without them feels impossible. Even on holidays or outings, I always carry a notebook and pen in my pocket, and the mobile is of course always with me. It’s not out of fear, but out of habit – the fear of missing something worth noting down.
6️⃣ These Tools Define My Identity
It is because of these three companions that I am known as a journalist. My personality, my observations, my writing, and my style of expression – all have been shaped by them. So when someone asks, “What is the most important thing you always carry with you?” – my answer is firm and clear: a pen, a notebook, and a mobile.

तुमच्यासोबत नेहमी बाळगण्याची सर्वात महत्त्वाची गोष्ट कोणती?

आपल्या दैनंदिन जीवनात काही वस्तू अशा असतात ज्या केवळ वस्तू नसून आपल्या आयुष्याचा अविभाज्य भाग बनलेल्या असतात. माझ्यासाठी त्या आहेत – मोबाईल, पेन आणि नोटबुक. गेल्या तीन दशकांहून अधिक काळ मी पत्रकारितेच्या क्षेत्रात कार्यरत आहे, आणि या क्षेत्राने मला ‘नेहमी तयार राहा’ ही सवय दिली आहे. अनुभव शिकवतो की योग्य वेळी योग्य साधनं जवळ असणं हेच यशाचं पहिलं पाऊल असतं. विचार, निरीक्षण आणि अभिव्यक्ती – या तिन्हींचं माध्यम म्हणजेच हे तीन साधनं. आज या तीन गोष्टींचं महत्त्व केवळ माझ्या कामापुरतंच मर्यादित राहिलेलं नाही, तर ते माझ्या जीवनशैलीचाच भाग बनलं आहे. म्हणूनच या विषयावर थोडं सविस्तर लिहावंसं वाटलं.
1️⃣ पेन – विचारांची पहिली शाई
पेन माझ्यासाठी केवळ एक लेखनसाधन नाही, तर तो माझ्या विचारांचा पहिला प्रवाह असतो. विचार क्षणात येतात आणि क्षणात निघूनही जातात, पण पेनाच्या साहाय्याने त्या क्षणांना कागदावर पकडता येतं. अनेकदा रस्त्यावर चालताना, एखादं दृश्य पाहताना किंवा कुणाशी बोलताना सुचलेला विचार लगेच लिहून ठेवण्याची सवय माझ्या पेनामुळेच आहे. पेनाशिवाय पत्रकारितेतील जगणे मला अपुरं वाटतं.
2️⃣ नोटबुक – आठवणींचा संग्रहालय
पेनसोबतच माझं नोटबुक म्हणजे माझं वैयक्तिक संग्रहालय आहे. अनेकदा मोबाईलमध्ये साठवलेली माहिती विसरली जाते, पण कागदावर लिहिलेली नोंद कायमची ठसते. नोटबुकमध्ये मी फक्त बातम्याच नाही, तर प्रसंग, भावना, प्रतिक्रीया आणि व्यक्तिमत्त्वांचा अभ्यासही नोंदवतो. हे नोटबुक म्हणजे माझं साक्षीदार असतं – माझ्या अनुभवांचं, संवादांचं आणि निरीक्षणांचं.
3️⃣ मोबाईल – माहितीचं आणि संवादाचं साधन
गेल्या २० वर्षांत मोबाईल हे आयुष्याचं महत्त्वाचं साधन बनलं आहे. बातम्या, संपर्क, फोटो, रेकॉर्डिंग, संशोधन, अगदी सोशल मीडिया वापरून जनमत जाणून घेणं – हे सगळं मोबाईलशिवाय अशक्य आहे. मोबाइलने पत्रकारितेचा चेहरामोहरा बदलून टाकला आहे. हल्ली बातमी मिळाल्याच्या क्षणाला ती पाठवण्याची प्रक्रिया सुरु होते – मोबाईलमुळे हे शक्य झालं आहे.
4️⃣ तीनही वस्तूंचा परस्परसंबंध
पेन, नोटबुक आणि मोबाईल ही तिन्ही साधनं स्वतंत्र असली तरी एकत्रित वापरली गेल्यास त्यांचा प्रभाव अधिक गहिरा होतो. एखादी नोंद पेनाने लिहिल्यावर ती लगेच मोबाईलमध्ये सेव्ह करता येते, आणि आवश्यकता भासल्यास फोटो किंवा ऑडिओ क्लिप संलग्न करता येते. ही त्रीसंधी म्हणजे पत्रकाराच्या विश्वासार्हतेचा पाया आहे.
5️⃣ नित्य उपयोगातली सवय
या तिन्ही गोष्टी इतक्या रोजच्या वापरात आल्या आहेत की त्यांच्याशिवाय घराबाहेर पडणं अशक्य वाटतं. अगदी सुट्टीच्या दिवशी जरी मी कुठे फिरायला गेलो, तरी नोटबुक आणि पेन खिशात असतात आणि मोबाईल तर सोबत आलाच. यामागे भीती नाही, तर सवय आहे – काहीतरी नोंद करायचं चुकू नये म्हणून.
6️⃣ हेच माझं ओळखीचं माध्यम
या तिन्ही वस्तूंमुळेच मी एक पत्रकार म्हणून ओळखला जातो. माझं व्यक्तिमत्त्व, माझं निरीक्षण, माझं लेखन आणि माझं मांडणीशैली – हे सगळं या साधनांमुळे आकार घेतं. म्हणूनच “तुमच्यासोबत नेहमी बाळगण्याची सर्वात महत्त्वाची गोष्ट कोणती?” हा प्रश्न जेव्हा समोर येतो, तेव्हा माझं उत्तर ठाम असतं – पेन, नोटबुक आणि मोबाईल.
