Food cooked by oneself tastes even better than that from a five-star hotel…!

Write about your most epic baking or cooking fail.

“I am certainly not someone who believes that cooking is only a woman’s job. This is because, during my student days, I lived away from home for education. Sometimes I stayed in a hostel, and sometimes rented a room. During that time, since I couldn’t afford two meals a day from a mess, I would cook at home as best as I could. After renting a room in the city for my studies, the first few attempts at cooking often ended in failure. Here’s one such story…”

  • “Being a Maharashtrian, eating just rice cooked in a pressure cooker or egg omelette with bread every day doesn’t feel satisfying. A typical Marathi person firmly believes that chapati and vegetables must be eaten at least once a day.
  • So, when I tried making chapatis for the first time, I completely messed up while kneading the wheat dough. The amount of water added while kneading has to be just right. But that’s something you don’t get right the first time. Sometimes there would be too little flour and too much water, or vice versa. The dough would either be too loose or too stiff. In such cases, the rolled chapati would often break when placed on the hot pan. While trying to roll the chapatis into round shapes, I often ended up with shapes resembling maps of different countries. Plus, I often burnt my hands on the hot pan while cooking the chapatis.
  • After cooking, the chapatis would turn out as hard as papads. However, the pride of having cooked something with my own hands would make me believe that despite all the flaws, my cooking was delicious. The same thing happened with the vegetables. But to me, the food always tasted good. Perhaps this experience is what developed my sense of patience and understanding.”

First of all, I would like to thank you for liking my post. I sincerely appreciate you inviting me as a guest for your followers on your site. Ma’am, I am a “Marathi” language writer-journalist from the state of Maharashtra, India. Apart from my blog, I write daily on social media as well as for Marathi newspapers. My main challenge, however, is that I have a great fear of the English language. I have to rely on a translator, which takes up a lot of my time. I hope you will understand. You can share or reblog my posts from my blog. Please help me with this, as it will give me the opportunity to reach new readers. 🙏🙏
