“I have been writing for the past 28 years. Writing in journalism is realistic and informative, and hence it is viewed as either occasional or at most, temporary writing. I believe that playwriting is a different type of writing since it involves dialogic writing based on the flow of the narrative. The writer brings fictional characters onto the stage as needed for the plot, presenting the storyline to the audience through dialogues and acting. This distinctiveness in theatrical scripts is similar to the uniqueness in film screenplay writing. The only difference is that plays are presented on stage, whereas films are shown on the screen. But both require scriptwriting. The same applies to advertisements as well. It’s a skill to present the objective of an advertisement in a very appealing and impactful way within a short time. A few seconds of an ad shown on the screen conveys its purpose more effectively with minimal dialogue. Similarly, an ad in print media also works to convey the exact subject and message in the fewest words. The structured writing skills in both print and electronic media are learned through experience. They cannot be taught through textbooks in a curriculum. Some skills can only be learned through repeated practice. Textbooks can provide informative knowledge about the skill, but mastering the skill and applying it proficiently happens only after frequent practice. Therefore, I am currently practicing structured writing techniques. Along with this, I also want to learn songwriting.”
