“संस्कारांचे आनंददायी सादरीकरण म्हणजेच उत्सव…!”

Invent a holiday! Explain how and why everyone should celebrate.

“There are already so many castes and religions, each with their own festivals and celebrations. Besides, a large community of people across the world identify themselves as secular thinkers, and they too have their own celebrations. Along with this, each country also celebrates its monarchy or government with great enthusiasm and pomp. In this crowd of festivals and celebrations, I honestly don’t think there is a need for yet another festival or celebration.”

• “Essentially, the creation of various festivals and celebrations within each religion, caste, and sect is a joyful and celebratory presentation of the values, social harmony, and the elevation of humanity established by that particular faith. Once we understand this definition, it becomes clear that this is the fundamental purpose behind the festivals of every religion.
• Now, why shouldn’t there be the creation of new festivals? The festivals that already exist are sufficient to instill values in us. Adding more festivals won’t really bring anything substantial. On the contrary, the economic burden following these festivals could increase. Humans, by nature, are celebratory beings. Even for the smallest of things, they crave communal, joyful expression. Because of this, people often go beyond their financial means and celebrate festivals, even if it causes them personal financial strain.
• The most important concern is that, due to the insistent focus on the grand and exuberant celebration of these traditional festivals, which carry the significance of religious and spiritual values, there is a growing fear that their sacredness might be lost. Once the sanctity is lost, the degradation of the values embedded within them won’t take long. Therefore, the festivals that already exist should be celebrated with joy while preserving the purity of moral and cultural values. This is the true need of the time and of our changing society.”

आधीच एव्हढ्या जाती आणि धर्म आहेत. त्यांचे वेगवेगळे सण आणि उत्सव आहेत. याशिवाय स्वतःला निधर्मी विचारधारेचे म्हणून मानणाऱ्या लोकांचा देखील मोठा जनसमुदाय जगभर पसरलेला आहे. त्यांचे देखील उत्सव आहेत. याबरोबरच प्रत्येक देशातील असलेल्या राजसत्तेचा देखील उत्सव त्या-त्या देशात उत्साहात आणि जल्लोषात साजरा केला जात असतो. आता एव्हढ्या सण आणि उत्सवांच्या गर्दीत आणखी एखाद्या सणाची किंवा उत्सवाची खरंच गरज आहे असं मला तरी वाटत नाही.

• मुळातच प्रत्येक धर्म, जात आणि पंथामधून वेगवेगळ्या सणांची किंवा उत्सवांची निर्मिती ही त्या-त्या धर्माने, जातीने आणि पंथाने निर्मिलेल्या संस्कार मूल्यांचे, सामाजिक एकोपा आणि मानवतेच्या उदात्तिकरणाचे जल्लोषी आणि आनंददायी सादरीकरण म्हणजेच सण किंवा उत्सव. ही व्याख्या एकदा का सहजतेने आपल्याला पटली की मग आपल्या लक्षात येते की, हाच तर प्रत्येक धर्माच्या सणांच्या पाठीमागचा मूळ हेतू आहे.
• आता नव्याने उत्सव किंवा सणांची निर्मिती का नको ? तर मुळात आहे ते सण आपल्याला संस्कारक्षम करण्यासाठी पुरेसे आहेत. त्यात आता नवीन उत्सव किंवा सणाची भरती करून फार काही हाती लागणार नाही. उलट सणानंतर येणारी आर्थिक दिवाळखोरी वाढेल. माणूस हा मुळातच उत्सवी वृत्तीचा आहे. अगदी छोट्या-छोट्या गोष्टींचे देखील त्याला सामूहिकरीत्या जल्लोषी सादरीकरण हवेहवेसे वाटत असते. त्यामुळे तो स्वतःच्या आर्थिक क्षमतेच्या बाहेर जावून स्वतःला झळ बसली तरी आनंदोत्सव साजरा करत असतो.
• सगळ्यात महत्वाचे म्हणजे आपल्या धार्मिक आणि आध्यात्मिक मूल्यांची महती सांगणाऱ्या या परंपरावादी सण आणि उत्सवांचे जल्लोषी सादरीकरणाच्या अट्टहासापोटी पावित्र्य नष्ट होते की काय ? अशी भीती निर्माण झाली आहे. एकदा का पावित्र्य नष्ट झाले की मग त्यातील संस्कारामूल्यांचा ऱ्हास व्हायला फार वेळ लागणार नाही. तेंव्हा आहे ते सण-उत्सव हे नीतिमूल्ये आणि संस्कारांचे पावित्र्य राखत आनंदात साजरे व्हावेत हीच काळाची आणि बदलत्या समाजाची खरी गरज असेल.
