The last week of February was quite eventful. Notably, February 27 was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Maharashtra’s Marathi art and literature community as the birth anniversary of the eminent Marathi playwright V. V. Shirwadkar and as Marathi Language Pride Day.

On this occasion, the All India Marathi Natya Parishad, Solapur branch, honored me as a playwright in the presence of former MLA and Natya Parishad President Prakash Yalgulwar, as well as Shivaji Shinde, the Joint Registrar of Punyashlok Ahilyabai Holkar Solapur University.

When your writing starts receiving recognition, it is for the first time that you truly realize your growing responsibility.

The honor received from our own people is not just an acknowledgment of past work but also a message of responsibility for the future. Therefore, it should be accepted not as a cause for ego but as a source of inspiration for further work. Honor is not a destination; it is the beginning of the next journey.

1. Honor is not just appreciation but recognition :-

Receiving an honor proves that your work holds significance for society. It is not merely about popularity but an official acknowledgment of efforts made for the greater good. While it is a validation of one’s achievements, it is not the final destination—rather, it is just the beginning.

2. Acknowledgment of hard work and recognition of consistency :-

Society does not confer great honors for momentary or superficial efforts. Such recognition reflects long-term dedication and perseverance. When society honors you, it validates your efforts and signifies that your contributions have brought about a positive change.

3. Increasing responsibility of expectations :-

With honor comes heightened expectations from society. You are seen as a role model, and there is an unspoken expectation that you will continue to act responsibly and maintain consistency. Sometimes, this recognition can create pressure, but if accepted wisely, it can serve as a powerful motivation.

4. Social recognition marks a new milestone :-

Receiving an honor does not signify the end of your journey; rather, it opens doors to new opportunities and challenges. It marks the beginning of a new phase where your thoughts, actions, and role in society expand even further.

5. The purpose of honor – not for ego, but for inspiration :-

Some people consider honor as the pinnacle of success and become complacent, while others take it as an inspiration to achieve even greater milestones. Those who view honor as a responsibility continue to progress, whereas those who see it as the ultimate achievement risk falling behind.

फेब्रुवारी महिन्याच्या शेवटचा आठवडा तसा धामधुमीतच गेला. त्यातही २७ फेब्रुवारी हा दिवस श्रेष्ठ मराठी नाटककार वि. वा. शिरवाडकर यांची जयंती आणि मराठी भाषा गौरव दिन म्हणून महाराष्ट्रात मराठी कला आणि साहित्य क्षेत्रात मोठ्या उत्साहात साजरा झाला. याचे औचित्य साधून अखिल भारतीय मराठी नाट्य परिषद, शाखा सोलापूरच्या वतीने माजी आमदार आणि नाट्य परिषदेचे अध्यक्ष प्रकाश यलगुलवार तसेच पुण्यश्लोक अहिल्याबाई होळकर सोलापूर विद्यापीठाचे सह कुलसचिव शिवाजी शिंदे यांच्या उपस्थितीत नाट्यलेखक म्हणून माझा गौरव करण्यात आला. आपल्या लेखनकार्याची प्रशंसा व्हायला लागली की पहिल्यांदाच जबाबदारी वाढल्याची जाणीव होते.

आपल्या लोकांकडून झालेला सन्मान हा केवळ भूतकाळातील कार्याची पोचपावती नसून भविष्यातील जबाबदारीचा संदेशही असतो. त्यामुळे तो अहंकारासाठी नव्हे, तर पुढील कार्यासाठी प्रेरणास्रोत म्हणून स्वीकारावा. सन्मान हा एक थांबा नाही, तर पुढच्या प्रवासाची सुरुवात आहे.

१. सन्मान म्हणजे केवळ कौतुक नव्हे, तर मान्यता :-

सन्मान मिळाल्यावर आपले कार्य समाजासाठी महत्त्वाचे असल्याचे सिद्ध होते. केवळ लोकप्रियता नव्हे, तर समाजाच्या भल्यासाठी केलेल्या प्रयत्नांची अधिकृत मान्यता हा सन्मान असतो. तो आपल्या कर्तृत्वाची पावती असली, तरी तो त्या कार्याची अंतिम मर्यादा नसते; उलट, ही केवळ सुरुवात असते.

२. मेहनतीची पोचपावती आणि सातत्याचा सन्मान :-

समाज कधीही क्षणिक किंवा दिखाऊ कार्यासाठी मोठ्या प्रमाणावर सन्मान देत नाही. हा सन्मान आपण दीर्घकाळ सातत्याने केलेल्या मेहनतीचे प्रतिबिंब असतो. जेव्हा समाज आपल्याला सन्मानित करतो, तेव्हा तो आपल्या प्रयत्नांना मान्यता देतो आणि हे सूचित करतो की आपल्यामुळे काहीतरी सकारात्मक बदल घडत आहे.

३. अपेक्षांची वाढती जबाबदारी :-

सन्मान मिळाल्यानंतर समाजाची आपल्याकडून अपेक्षा वाढतात. आपली प्रतिमा आदर्श म्हणून पाहिली जाते, आणि त्यामुळे आपण यापुढेही जबाबदारीने वागावे, सातत्य टिकवावे, असा अप्रत्यक्ष संकेत समाज देत असतो. काही वेळा हा सन्मान दबावही निर्माण करू शकतो, पण तो योग्य प्रकारे स्वीकारल्यास प्रेरणादायी ठरतो.

४. समाजाची मान्यता म्हणजे नवा टप्पा :-

सन्मान मिळाल्यानंतर कार्य थांबत नाही, उलट पुढे आणखी मोठ्या संधी आणि आव्हाने उभी राहतात. हे एक नवे पर्व असते, जिथे आपले विचार, कृती आणि समाजातील भूमिका अधिक व्यापक होतात.

५. सन्मानाचा उपयोग – अहंकारासाठी नव्हे, तर प्रेरणेसाठी :-

काही लोक सन्मानाला अंतिम यश समजतात आणि त्यानंतर निष्क्रिय होतात, तर काहीजण याला आणखी मोठे कार्य करण्यासाठी प्रेरणा मानतात. जो सन्मानाला जबाबदारी मानतो, तो सातत्याने प्रगती करतो, आणि जो त्याला प्रतिष्ठेचे अंतिम शिखर समजतो, तो मागे राहतो.
